On Tuesday, Walmart announced free two-day shipping on millions of items listed on their website. Also, in comparison to Amazon Prime, Walmart reveals that no membership is required. Walmart announces the new program will provide free shipping to a customer’s house after they spend over $35 to $50. The new free two-day shipping program will also be available for popular items such as food, baby products, and electronics.
The company’s CEO, Marc Lore, posted in a statement, “Two-day free shipping is the first of many moves we will be making to enhance the customer experience and accelerate growth.”
“In today’s world of e-commerce, two-day free shipping is table stakes. It no longer makes sense to charge for it,” added Lore.
Earlier this month, Walmart announced a plan to hire 34,000 jobs and improve training for their current employees. In fact, the company revealed their plans on investing $7 billion into the company, which will pay for construction, remodeling of stores as well as distribution centers.
Amazon Prime membership is known for providing free two-day shipping for their members. However, Membership to Amazon Prime is not free. That said, Amazon still has additional benefits over Walmart. For instance, Amazon Prime membership includes access to movies, TV shows, music, and documentaries. Also, Amazon Prime provides free shipping to all of the items listed on the website while Walmart provides free shipping to a select few of products.
