Amazon Studios executive, Roy Price, resigns following harassment allegations. Amazon Studios chief Roy Price has resigned, less than a week after Amazon placed the studio executive on leave following a producer accused him of sexual harassment.
Following a Hollywood Reporter report detailing harassment allegations against the Amazon Studios chief made by Isa Hackett, a producer of the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle, Price from resigned the company. Albert Cheng will serve as the interim head of the studio; an Amazon spokesperson told CNN.
Amazon is competing with Netflix, and other TV streaming giants and the loss of a studio executive could be a significant setback for the company. In fact, Amazon decided to cancel an event promoting their new shows in London this week. However, it is unclear if it was due to the Roy Price harassment allegations.
The harassment accusations come from an incident that allegedly happened in 2015. Hackett claims that Price repeatedly made lewd comments to her while they were both attending Comic-Con. Hackett said she reported his improper behavior to Amazon at the time.
Hackett said she was motivated to speak out because so many women had shared their stories about Harvey Weinstein, a film producer who is the subject of several sexual harassments and rape claims that have come to light recently. In fact, Weinstein resigned from the board of the Weinstein Co., on Tuesday.
“I hope we all continue to inspire each other and ultimately create change,” Hackett said.
