AI Startup CEO Accused of Brutal Murder in India

Suchana Seth, AI entrepreneur and former resident of New York, is facing murder allegations of her young son in Goa, India, according to a report made by local police this Tuesday. Formerly leading The Mindful AI Lab, Seth found herself taken into custody in southwest India, following the nightmarish discovery of her son’s body in her luggage, as noted by The Economic Times.

Shocking Find in Coastal Town

Seth’s arrest occurred in Candolim, a quaint town located amidst the picturesque landscapes of Goa. The highly disturbing case unfolded at a local hotel, where her late-night logistics decision raised eyebrows among the dutiful hotel staff. In defiance of the hotel staff’s cost-effective recommendation of air travel, Seth insisted on a 14-hour taxi journey to her Bengaluru residence. Following her departure, a left-behind bloodstain and the absence of her son triggered a police investigation.

CCTV Monitoring Unveils Unsettling Truth

Post-departure of Seth, the hotel staff stumbled upon the alarming discovery of a bloodstain on the floor of her previous room. This prompted the evaluating of CCTV footage which exposed Seth leaving the establishment solo, triggering the immediate contact of the hired taxi driver by local authorities and the instruction to escort her to the nearest police station, as stated by Goa police inspector Paresh Naik.

Deception Uncovered

However, Seth’s statement to the police didn’t add up. She claimed to have left her son at a friend’s house in Fatorda, yet the provided address was revealed to be a hoax. The reality of the situation became gruesomely apparent when the taxi driver, under police directive, led them to Seth’s luggage, “When her luggage was opened, the child’s dead body was found,” North Goa Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan told reporters.

Murder Motive and Seth’s Background

The exact cause behind this heinous act remains veiled until the completion of the police investigation, added Valsan. In the midst of this tragic news, Seth mentioned an ongoing divorce process with her Indonesia-based husband, an AI developer. Upon her arrest, she was presented before a Goa court around 1 p.m. local time Tuesday. The court ruled a six-day police custody for her.

Prior to this horrifying incident, Seth held an impressive professional record. A distinguished alumnus of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, Seth made it to the list of the “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021”. Her LinkedIn profile shed light on her previous work in New York City and Boston from 2016 to 2019, during her Harvard tenure.
