• Conducted the split amicably, but now the couple is now involved in a messy court battle
On April 11, Jay Wayne “Jeezy” Jenkins of “Dancing With the Stars” fame, filed a legal plea for full custody of Monaco, his daughter with ex-wife Jeannie Mai. TMZ confirmed that Jeezy had urged for the annulment of their formerly agreed upon custody agreement.
Jeezy’s Plea for Full Custody
Allegedly, Jeezy has made this move because Mai’s mother and brother have been temporarily caring for Monaco due to Mai’s demanding work commitments. In contrast, Jeezy himself maintains that he can provide steady and superior care for their daughter.
The custody battle ensues after Jeezy declared his wish for a divorce from Mai in September 2023. This proceeding came as a shock to Mai, who only learned about it when the rest of the world did. She expressed her feelings in an interview with “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in December 2023 saying, “When I found out, you know, at the same time as the rest of the world, that my marriage was ending in divorce, I was gutted.”
Jeezy’s Public Statement
Following the split, Jeezy shared a poignant statement with Heavy, making it clear that his daughter, Monaco, comes before all else. He mentioned, “Our beautiful daughter is the best gift from our relationship and I am committed to assuring she feels the love and stability she deserves.”
Regrettably, Heavy.com, in their attempt to reach out to Mai’s representative for comments in this regard remained unanswered.
Mai’s Reverse Stance on Prenuptial Agreement
Earlier this year in January, Page Six disclosed that Mai pleaded with a judge to revoke her prenuptial agreement with Jeezy. Mai confessed that she had not scrutinized the paperwork thoroughly before signing it and claimed that she entered into the marriage without thorough due diligence.
Further, in her statement, Mai raised “significant concerns about the adequacy and thoroughness of the due diligence process and each party’s ‘full and fair disclosure’ of their financial positions.”
Disparately, Jeezy has projected Mai as “gatekeeping” their daughter, Monaco. According to Page Six, Jeezy abdicated their initial custody agreement and filed a motion in December 2023 to modify the contract.
With the battle for custody and appeal to discard their prenuptial agreement, this once respectful estrangement has turned into an unpleasant court brawl. It remains to be seen how these issues will be resolved and what impact it will have on their daughter Monaco.
