Body:
Additional human remains have been discovered in the former home of Brian Giles. Giles was recently sentenced for the harrowing murder of his wife Nancy Giles. This recent incident has generated substantial unease in the small town of Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Conviction of Brian Giles
Only last Thursday, Giles was handed a guilty verdict in relation to his wife’s chilling murder in 2018. Nancy Giles, previously reported missing in October 2018, was later unearthed from a shallow grave. The horrifying discovery had been made several months after her initial disappearance.
Second Set of Remains Found
Upsettingly, investigators have now revealed a second set of remains buried beneath the couple’s former domicile, adding a sinister new layer to the case. According to the authorities, the additional remains were concealed beneath the basement of the residence where the couple shared an apartment.
Police worked tirelessly throughout the weekend in an attempt to identify the second body. The skeletal remains were detected around 2-3 feet below the basement’s crawlspace. A cadaver dog was brought in to assist with the investigation, and it played an integral role in identifying the location of the remains, revealed the New Castle News on Sunday.
Investigation Receives Specific Information
According to District Attorney Greg Neugebauer, investigators were led to the residence due to “specific information” received concerning another body. Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees has described the situation as “highly suspicious,” especially considering the location of the remains. The significant excavation process took multiple hours, according to WJAC-TV reports.
Post-Autopsy Analysis
The remains underwent an autopsy on Saturday which was closely followed by a forensic analysis performed at Mercyhurst University in Erie. While authorities caution it may take some time to formally identify the remains, thorough forensic testing has commenced. “This is going to be a lengthy investigation in removing these remains”, said Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees to The New Castle News.
Unilateral Guilt Proclaimed
Following Nancy Giles’ disappearance, Brian Giles started a relationship with Jilly Todaro. Interestingly, Todaro has also been missing since December 2020. Reports indicate that Giles was charged with assaulting Todaro a few days prior to her vanishing. However, officials have maintained discretion on whether the search for remains is linked to Todaro’s case.
Just last week, Giles was found guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated assault relating to his wife’s tragic death. The conviction came about after a four-day trial and only required an hour of jury deliberation. Despite the strong case against him, the killer insisted on his innocence as he was taken into custody. The Tribune-Democrat reported that his lawyers felt his struggles with mental health were not adequately considered during the trial.
The recent grave discovery has added a complicating twist to an already disturbing case. As investigations continue, the full horror of what transpired in the former home of Brian Giles is yet to be revealed.
