Despicable Me 4 Hits Box Office Gold This Independence Day Weekend

Greetings fellow film lovers! Can you believe the fourth of July weekend just passed us by? A bunch of people, just like you and me, decided to skip the barbecue and fireworks for a bit to indulge in some movie magic. And the movie ruling the roost? You guessed it right! Despicable Me 4.

Despicable Me 4 Steals the Show

As we unwrapped the gift that was this Independence Day weekend, our lovable baddie Gru and his yellow henchmen yet again took center stage at the box office. Celebrating its franchise return, Despicable Me 4 earned an impressive $20.4 million. It’s easy to see why – those lovable minions, speaking their cute gibberish, are hard to resist!

Despicable Me 4 might not have trumped Despicable Me 2’s stellar debut of $24.5 million back in 2013, but it surpassed 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru. That spin-off did pretty well too, fetching $16 million.

Running Up Close

Hot on the heels of our minion mates was the animated sensation, Inside Out 2. It came second, adding $7.2 million to its kitty this weekend, taking its total domestic earnings past a massive half a billion dollars. Talk about resilience!

Not far behind was the suspense-filled A Quiet Place: Day One. Earning $4.7 million, it seems audiences continue to be gripped by the silent horror this sequel offers.

Don’t Miss Out on the Hidden Gems

Pegging fourth was the lesser-known but definitely worth a watch – The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. Produced by Angel Studios, this underdog flick made a surprising $3.1 million. Who says small releases can’t make big waves?

Sitting on the Fence

Rounding off the top five was Horizon. Despite the hype, it fell short with earnings of just $1.87 million. Its future looks a bit bleak. We’ll have to wait and see if the tide turns for it over the next weekend.

What’s Next at the Box Office?

Fellow fans, the predictions are exciting! Despicable Me 4 is hitting the ground running, with speculations of making $70 million the coming weekend. This would put it neck and neck with Despicable Me 3, which opened at $73 million in 2017 and went on to gross a cool $264 million domestically. Way to go Gru and his gang!

Inside Out 2 is set to maintain its strong second position, aiming for the $30 million bracket. A Quiet Place: Day One and Horizon, though, will need to work a bit harder to keep up.

The battle for the box office crown is far from over, with several exciting releases on the horizon. But one thing’s for sure, our favourite bad guy and his mischievous minions are ruling the charts this year!

So, fellow movie buffs, what do you plan to watch this coming weekend? Whatever you choose, may your popcorn always be warm, your soda cold, and your movie exhilarating!
