Tragic Brooklyn Boating Accident Takes Life of Scuba Diver Radik Galeev

A Relaxing Day Turns Tragic

Radik Galeev was out boating with his wife, Tatsiana Rymasheuskaya, and a friend in Brooklyn’s Gerritsen Creek last Saturday. What began as a peaceful morning on the water ended up in a fatal boating collision around noon, according to police reports. The other boat, steered by a 68-year-old man, suddenly appeared and their vessels collided near Avenue X.

According to Rymasheuskaya, who shared her heartbreaking story from a hospital bed, “Nobody saw that boat. It was all of a sudden, it came out of nowhere.” The impact was so severe that both she and her husband fell into the water and lost consciousness.

A Desperate Attempt To Help

On regaining consciousness, Rymasheuskaya saw her husband’s body halfway in the boat, his head submerged in water. With adrenaline pumping through her veins, she tried to pull him back into the boat but found him too heavy. She was not aware of the time that had passed, but when her senses returned, FDNY and NYPD first responders were already at the scene.

Despite efforts from first responders who performed CPR on Galeev, he was tragically pronounced dead at South Brooklyn Health around 1:05 p.m. Rymasheuskaya and their friend also received medical treatment at the same hospital. The operator of the other vessel sustained minor injuries.

Remembering Radik Galeev

As she grapples with her trauma and loss, Rymasheuskaya recalls Galeev as a good-hearted, open-minded man who was a friend to many. Originally from Russia, Galeev relocated to the USA in 1991 and operated a moving company. He was a hard worker who often performed heavy tasks alongside his employees and was not afraid to dig into his wallet if clients failed to tip his staff.

Galeev was also a passionate nature enthusiast. He loved swimming, camping, and fresh-water or sea fishing. His wife reverberated a poignant reality when she said: “This is such a stupid death because he is a very good swimmer. He is a scuba diver.”

A Supportive Father, Husband, and Business Owner

Besides being an outstanding friend and nature lover, Galeev was a loving husband and father. He shared a deep bond of love and affection with his daughter Alexsandra, who fondly remembers him as her guiding light. He always encouraged Alexsandra in her healthcare career pursuits, which she attributes to his positive spirit and unwavering support.

Galeev’s untimely, sudden loss has shocked his family, friends, and the whole community. Rymasheuskaya is currently unable to organize his funeral due to her hospitalization, despite a palpable urge to bid her beloved husband a fitting farewell.

Community Outreach

To help the grieving family, Alexsandra Galeev created an online fundraiser to cover her father’s funeral expenses and support her widowed mother. In her call for community support, she wrote, “Radik was a man who embodied kindness, positivity, and an unwavering spirit.”

The tragic loss of Radik Galeev, beloved father, loving husband, and valiant leader, has resoundingly echoed in the quiet waterways of Gerritsen Creek. As the local community rallies to support his family in their hour of need, the tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of life’s unpredictable course.
