Hold onto your horror hats, folks, because we’re diving back into Stephen King land. This time, it’s none other than regular King adaptor Mike Flanagan leading the charge. Not ringing any bells? Well, how about ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ or ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ on Netflix? That’s the guy!
Venturing into ‘Carrie’ Territory
Flanagan is getting ready to revamp ‘Carrie,’ Stephen King’s first book that scared the pants off us back in 1974. ‘Carrie’ has always been a hit with horror buffs, and its story has brought in big money at the box office, not once, but twice.
Its first silver screen outing was directed by Brian De Palma and starred John Travolta and Sissy Spacek. With a budget of only $2 million, it downright scared up an incredible $30 million. In 2013, there was a remake starring Julianne Moore and Chloë Grace Moretz which managed to triple its budget, bringing $84.7 million.
Flanagan’s Fresh Take on ‘Carrie’
As of now, the specifics of Flanagan’s version are shrouded in mystery, but what we know for certain is, it will likely be an 8-part series. Also, all set to stream on Amazon. Given Flanagan’s track record turning King’s tales into spooky successes, there’s a lot of anticipation in the air!
When Will ‘Carrie’ Hit Our Screens?
There’s no official word yet on when we’ll see Flanagan’s ‘Carrie.’ But watch this space because more news is likely to drop later this year or early in 2025.
Who’s Along for the Scary Ride?
Flanagan isn’t going solo into the chilling world of ‘Carrie.’ Joining him is his regular partner in crime (or should I say horror), Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures. They are teaming up as executive producers on the upcoming series. Another familiar face, Melinda Nishioka, will be leading the whole project, underscoring the level of talent behind this adaptation.
Beyond the Book with Mike Flanagan
This isn’t Flanagan’s first foray into Stephen King’s terrifying tales. Remember ‘Doctor Sleep’ or the chilling ‘Gerald’s Game’? That’s him. If his adaptation of ‘Carrie’ is successful, Flanagan will further solidify his position as a true King of horror.
Beyond ‘Carrie,’ Flanagan is also working on ‘The Life of Chuck,’ based on a Stephen King novella. This film stars Tom Hiddleston, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, and Kate Siegel. Notably, it just won the Audience Prize at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and is expected to release next year.
So, whether you’re eagerly waiting for ‘Carrie’ or itching to see ‘The Life of Chuck,’ one thing’s for sure. Mike Flanagan is the guy you want bringing Stephen King’s creepy classics to life.
