A while ago, Joss Whedon was the big hero at Marvel. He made the highest-grossing films and then suddenly, he called it quits. Marvel was in a fix and needed a quick solution. So, the franchise chose them to finish out the epic Infinity Saga.

This decision worked in Marvel’s favour, and boy oh boy, did it work for the Russo Brothers too! With the Avengers: Endgame series, they not only filled their coffers but also received a round of applause from the critics. But then in 2021, they teamed up with Spider-Man (from the MCU) for a crime thriller, and things didn’t go as well as sort.

A Bumpy Box Office Ride

After leaving the MCU behind, the Russo Brothers decided to try something new. They worked on the Netflix extraction series which included MCU star Chris Hemsworth. Then they teamed up with MCU’s big gun, Tom Holland, but sadly this movie could not recreate the magic. Their 2021 film Cherry wasn’t a big hit with audiences or critics.

Whilst Tom Holland’s performance was good, the movie lacked the Russo Brothers’ previous artistic edge. This showed in the Tomato-meter score too, which for Cherry was a dismal 37% compared to near-perfect scores for Endgame.
