‘Justice League’ Has a Mustache Problem

With the upcoming Justice League movie hitting the box office shortly, Warner Bros. and DC executives are hoping that the film will reach the same level of box office success as Wonder Woman. As a result, it is not surprising to hear that the studios are doing whatever it takes to make the movie a hit.

According to reports, the studio is spending $25 million to have extensive reshoots in Los Angeles and London, which have lasted around two months. While this is a lot longer and more expensive than most movies, Girls Trip was filmed on a budget of only $20 million; it has not been easy to free up the schedules of various in-demand actors.

Ezra Miller, the actor who plays The Flash, is currently reprising his role of Credence Barebone in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel. Also, Henry Cavil is working on the sixth Mission Impossible movie.

While Warner Bros. has been able to overcome MIller’s scheduling issues, they haven’t had quite as much success with Henry Cavill. The actor initially didn’t expect to return to Justice League for reshoots until after he had completed the sixth Mission: Impossible movie. Now the actor has had to jump back and forth between productions.

However, as Cavill grew a mustache for the Mission: Impossible movie role, Paramount did not allow him to shave the facial hair for the Justice League reshoots. So, the mustache will have to be digitally removed during post-production, which seems like it will cost a lot of money to eliminate some peach fuzz for the Warner Bros. studio.

But at least Henry Cavill isn’t taking it too seriously.

It’s nice to know that they are putting all their efforts into making sure that the movie is up to par. Despite the issues, it seems like the studio is attempting to keep the ball rolling following Wonder Woman’s success and starting a new launch of DC franchised films.

Box Office: ‘Girls Trip’, ‘Dunkirk’ are Surprise Hits, ‘Valerian’ Flops

Nowadays, there are very few directors, actors, and filmmakers that can guarantee a profit on an original idea, especially when the movie has an expensive budget. Not even Spielberg has been able to do that recently, even though Ready Player One may change that. However, Christopher Nolan, who filmed the Dark Knight trilogy, looks like he’s Hollywood’s hottest director. Following, the Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan has found success with Interstellar, Inception and this weekend’s Dunkirk.

The Christopher Nolan movie starring Tom Hardy managed to earn $51 million at the box office, which is nothing in comparison to Wonder Woman’s explosive box office hit, Nolan’s movies tend to do really well in the long term. For example, Inception opened with $62 million and eventually made $292 million at the box office. The same phenomenon occurred with Nolan’s Interstellar, which went from a $47 million opening to over $600 million worldwide.

Currently, Dunkirk has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- Cinemascore. As a result, word of mouth could make Nolan’s war movie a hit over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Lee’s Girl’s Trip earned $28 million this weekend on a $20 million budget. The movie, which has an A+ Cinemascore, and an 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, beat initial expectations. Ultimately, Malcolm Lee has mastered the art of making hit box office movies on relatively inexpensive budgets. Lee is the mastermind behind Best Man Holiday, which made $70 million, and Barbershop: The Next Cut. It is also a break-out movie for Tiffany Haddish, who previously worked as a background actor before landing a career changing role.

In one of the biggest box office bombs is Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The movie cost over $200 million to make and only managed to earn $16 million on its opening weekend. Mixed reviews and relatively no buzz, seemed to hurt the chances for the movie. However, a worldwide release could turn the upset into a winner, if audiences connect with the story.

Next week, Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde and T.J. Miller’s The Emoji Movie hits theaters.

‘Black Panther’ Teaser Receives Standing Ovation at Comic-Con

The Georgia filmed Marvel production, Black Panther is probably one of the most anticipated movies coming from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The production has a lot of pressure as it depicts a predominately black cast in a genre, which mostly features Caucasian actors. That said, a teaser trailer was released at Comic Con and the crowd reportedly gave the clip a standing ovation.

The movie starts with T’Challa and Wakanda still reeling with the events of Captain America: Civil War, the cast, and crew explained that the death of T’Challa’s father and Wakanda’s king, T’Chaka, are important to the movie’s storyline, Polygon reported.

“The best thing about the comic book was that T’Chala got his power from the people around him — and where I come from, that’s how we live,” said director Ryan Coogler.

As the cast left the stage, Marvel played several clips from the movie that were exclusive to the audience’s eyes only and the final clip received a standing ovation, according to Polygon.

There have been dozens of casting calls for the movie so, it is great to see a vision become a reality. Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Ny’yongo and Andy Serkis. Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.

‘Ready Player One’ Early Footage Brings Spielberg’s Casting Calls to Life (VIDEO)

Steven Spielberg has released a trailer for his new movie Ready Player One at Comic-Con.

According to Project Casting, last year Steven Spielberg and a group of casting directors held world-wide talent searches for actors to play and star in the upcoming Ready Player One. Now, at San Diego Comic-Con, we have an early glimpse inside of Spielberg’s vision.

On Saturday, Spielberg revealed the first footage from Ready Player One, the movie adaptation of Ernie Cline’s scifi novel. The trailer shows a look inside the world of Oasis including colors, lasers and pop culture references. In fact, the trailer included pop culture references alluding to Back to the Future, Iron Giant and Akira.

The final scene, which is a big race, is actually not in the novel, which suggests Spielberg may have taken creative liberty with the novel.

Earlier this year, casting directors Ellen Lewis and Debbie DeLisi Casting announced open casting calls for several lead roles in the movie. Casting directors were looking for kids and teen actors to audition for roles in the movie. Producers were especially looking for Asian-American actors to play the characters Wade Watts, Shoot, and Daito, Project Casting reported. But, Steven Spielberg not only had a talent search. The director began hiring artists to work on the movie.

Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan as Wade, a young kid who lives physically in one world but prefers to mentally live in the Oasis, a massive virtual neighborhood on the internet. When the show’s creator dies, he starts a worldwide treasure hunt for control of his massive company and Wade, along with a group of other people, devote their life to the game, a game that rests largely on the knowledge of pop culture.

Ready Player One hits theaters on March 30th.

U.K. Announces New Regulations for Drone Owners

0

The UK government announced on Saturday that nearly all drones will now have to be registered.

The government announced that all drones that weigh more than 25 grams, which is a little more than a half a pound, will need to be registered with the Department of Transport.

Moreover, drone owners will now have to pass a “safety awareness test” – a test that will require drone owners to demonstrate that they under U.K. regulations regarding privacy and security.

This news comes after a report by aviation authorities detailing drones as small as 400 grams can damage helicopter windshields.

In a statement, Aviation Minister Lord Martin Callahan said “Like all technology, drones too can be misused. By registering drones, introducing safety awareness tests to educate users we can reduce the inadvertent breaching of airspace restrictions to protect the public.”

Callanan added, in an interview with the BBC, the new rules should not be seen as a regulation to stop “people from having fun.” But, it is important to point out that earlier this year, two drones were reported to have flown close enough to an Airbus A320 jet approaching Heathrow Airport. The drones flew so close it was considered a severe collision risk.

Dr. Alan McKenna told BBC News, “Registration has its place. I would argue it will focus the mind of the flyer—but I don’t think you can say it’s going to be a magic solution.”

There is no word on when the new rules will be in force. So it remains up in the air how long drone owners in the U.K. will have the liberty to fly drones without their name on a government list.

In comparison to UK laws, the United States does not require anyone to register non-commercial drones after a May 2017 court ruling, which invalidated the Federal Aviation Administration’s drone regulations. In fact, the FAA even started refunding the $5 registration fee drone owners were required to pay at the beginning of the US regulation.

But, it begs the question how UK laws will impact businesses who see drone flying as a business methodology for logistical transportation. Take Amazon, for example; the company announced late last year their first delivery via a drone, which coincidentally also took place in the U.K. That said, Amazon highlights that safety is their biggest priority. The company has reportedly developed “sense and avoid” technology. If successful, Amazon also plans on delivering packages in 30 minutes or less with drones.

‘Girls Trip’ Star Tiffany Haddish Previously Worked As a Background Actor

Girls Trip leading actress Tiffany Haddish once worked as an extra with Central Casting.

Girls Trip is one of the biggest movies this summer. In fact, the movie has had some of the best reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave a “Fresh” rating with a critics consensus saying “Girls Trip is the rare R-rated comedy that pushes boundaries to truly comedic effect — and anchors its laughs in compelling characters brought to life by a brilliantly assembled cast.”

But, did you know one of the stars in the movie worked as a background actor? Central Casting broke the news on Saturday morning revealing actress, Tiffany Haddish, once worked as a background extra prior to making it big in Hollywood. Since then, Haddish has not only starred in Girls Trip but according to her IMDB page, has worked on The Carmichael Show, Keanu and Real Husbands of Hollywood. Most recently, she gave a hilarious interview on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, where she talks about meeting and hanging out with the Smiths. You can check her out below.

Girls Trip is directed by Malcolm Lee (Barbershop, Best Man Holiday) and executive produced by Will Packer (Straight Outta Compton, Ride Along, Think Like A Man). Girls Trip centers on four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.

Tyler Perry to Leave Oprah’s OWN for Viacom and Paramount

After five years with Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, Tyler Perry has landed a major deal with Viacom to produce a variety of productions at BET and other Viacom channels.

The five-year deal will see Tyler Perry develop exclusively licensed television series and only distributed video shorts for Viacom and is part of an effort to shift content for the company. Perry, who had free rein to develop films with any distributor after his Lionsgate deal wrapped in 2014, will now give Paramount Pictures exclusive first-look rights.

The film deal starts now, according to Variety, while Perry’s long-term TV deal won’t begin until his absolute overall deal with OWN wraps in May 2019.

“Viacom has a rich tradition of reaching my audience through their TV, film and digital platforms and I am excited to partner with them,” Perry said in a statement to various media outlets. “I am eager to have one home where I can leverage all of their assets to tell my stories to an even wider audience. I have been very blessed to have worked with the incredible people at Lionsgate and OWN over the last few years, and I look forward to continuing my work with them on a non-exclusive basis.”

As part of Tyler Perry’s deal, he will create 90 episodes per year of comedy and drama series, and Deadline reported the agreement is similar to the one he had with OWN, a network which helped launch Winfrey after a slow start in 2008. OWN said Tyler Perry’s programs would continue to air on OWN through 2020.

“At the end of the exclusive relationship, OWN and Tyler Perry have the option to work together on a non-exclusive basis,” the network said in a statement to entertainment websites. “OWN has had great success in the scripted space with Tyler Perry and with its new original dramas ‘Queen Sugar’ and ‘Greenleaf.’ The network will continue to aggressively expand its roster of premium original scripted series.”

‘Walking Dead’ Stunt Actor Hospitalized After Serious Injury On Georgia Set

The Walking Dead is now filming outside Atlanta, Georgia this summer, which is great news for fans of the zombie drama. However, on Wednesday, stuntman John Bernecker has been severely injured on the set of the hit TV series. According to Deadline’s sources, he suffered a severe head injury after falling 30 feet to a concrete floor.

Bernecker was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he’s being treated in the ICU. According to the Spoiling Dead Fans, production has been halted and unlikely to start again tomorrow.

It is important to point out that in 2013, production stopped on the set of The Walking Dead after a zombie extra was run over by a truck. 20-year-old, Zane Orr, was hit by a military truck whose brakes malfunctioned, so the young background actor was immediately airlifted to a nearby Atlanta hospital. Apparently, a 2.5-ton truck rolled over Orr’s stomach, but miraculously, his injuries were life-threatening, and the young actor was released from the hospital just three days later.

This is not the first time someone was injured on the set of a TV show or movie filming in Georgia. Two years ago, assistant camera operator Sarah Jones was killed on the set of the film Midnight Rider. In 2014, during the first day of filming, the crew was filming on an active railroad bridge in Wayne County, Georgia. Sarah Jones was killed when she was struck by a moving CSX freight train that was traveling on the bridge. Production was suspended, and multiple investigations into the incident were undertaken. The movie’s director Randall Miller pled guilty to felony involuntary manslaughter and criminal trespassing and received a ten-year sentence.

Following Sarah Jones’ death Safety for Sarah movement started campaigned by Jones’ family, friends, and supporters. The goal of the campaign was to create greater awareness and attention to security issues in the production of films and television.

‘Scarface’ Remake Director Reportedly Exits Over a “Too Dark” Script

Filming for the upcoming Scarface reboot is expected to start shooting this summer in Georgia. However, the movie’s director, David Ayer, has just dropped out of the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

According to reports, Universal’s Scarface has lost their director, David Ayer. Apparently, Ayer’s script was “too dark” for the studio.

Ayer, who recently completed filming Suicide Squad, is known for his hard-hitting movies such as Training Day and End of Watch.

Scarface centers around the rise and fall of a gangster. There have been two previous versions of Scarface, the latest most notably became a pop-culture phenomenon and solidified Al Pacino’s career in Hollywood. Directed by Brian De Palma the movie went on to gross $44 million at the box office.

The latest Scarface reboot would move the movie’s setting from Miami, Florida to Los Angeles, California.

It is important to note that Universal has been working hard on finding a director to direct the movie. Equalizer and Training Day director Antoine Fuqua was once attached to direct the project until he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Then, Patriots Day director Peter Berg was considered for the directing job.

Meanwhile, Ayer’s next movie is the Netflix fantasy film Bright, which stars Will Smith. He is also set to direct the upcoming Western remake The Wild Bunch, and the upcoming Margot Robbie superhero movie Gotham City Sirens, which will star Robbie’s, Harley Quinn.

Disney’s ‘Aladdin’ is Reportedly Struggling to Find Actors

Despite holding numerous open casting calls and talent searches, Disney is reportedly struggling to cast the actors for the upcoming Aladdin movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, more than 2,000 people have auditioned for the roles of Jasmine and Aladdin, but finding a male in his 20s of Middle Eastern descent have been extremely difficult.

A talent search started last March to find the stars for the upcoming musical feature film. The movie’s director, Guy Ritchie and casting director Randi Hiller, reportedly hired casting directors from around the world to find the actor to play Aladdin the upcoming film. However, it has been too difficult to find the right actor for the movie.

The first casting calls pointed out that production was supposed to start in July, but the talent search is still dragging on.

Actors Dev Patel and Riz Ahmed were reportedly the frontrunners for the movie. But, The Hollywood Reporter reports that the actor to play Aladdin will most likely be a newcomer.

Ultimately, Disney is focused on casting the right actor for the movie. As THR points out, an extensive casting process helped create successful films. In fact, it took a long time for casting directors to find Lily James to play Cinderella and Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Moreover, this is a huge investment for Disney. Disney has made billions by creating live-action versions of animated classics. For instance, Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson made $1.3 billion.
