Study: 83% of Americans Find Trump’s Relationship with the Media as “Unhealthy”

0

There is no denying trumps relationship with the media. Most importantly, his relationship with social media such as Twitter. In fact, nearly every day Donald Trump’s personal social media accounts creates international headlines based upon what he believes is relevant, meaningful and most importantly concerning him at the moment. He has used this platform as a way to talk directly to his opponents and businesses. But how does the American public feel about Trump’s relationship with the media?

A new Pew survey found that 83% of Americans believe that the relationship Donald Trump has with the media is “unhealthy.” Moreover, an additional 73% think Trump’s tension between the press hinders their access to political news.

These concerns over Trump’s relationship with the news, social media, and the American public stress not only between Republicans but also Democrats. Therefore, illustrating how men and women from various household incomes and education levels feel about Donald Trump’s relationship often times confrontational Association with the media.

It is important to know a separate Pew study conducted earlier this month found that a majority of Americans feel that checks and balances are not only important but also crucial to democracy and that news organization should have the ability and freedom to criticize their political leaders. Overall it is clear that Americans see the symbiotic relationship between the president and the press as something relevant to the values Americans hold true within a democracy.

This news comes after a New York Times magazine report that found that Pres. Donald Trump considered giving Fox exclusive TV rights to televise the inauguration. In fact, CNN president Jeff Zucker says he intervened after he heard Jared Kushner broker the exclusive deal with Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch. Zucker reportedly said, “This is crazy … You’re just going to give your inaugural coverage to your base of support? It makes no sense.” That said, Zucker has had a long relationship with Pres. Trump. Busby reported last week that Trump has been asking his surrogates to try to get books on CNN and many argue that Trump’s airtime on the news network health tromp get elected.

Shia LaBeouf’s ‘Man Down’ Movie Only Sold One Ticket in the UK

Shia LaBeouf is one of the most famous actors in Hollywood. He has starred in Transformers and is found in some of the biggest and even sometimes most controversial performance art pieces throughout the country and even the world. His latest feature film “Man Down” was an unique look inside a soldier suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder otherwise known as PTSD. The movie was praised by critics at film festivals and many saw it as a come back for Shia LaBeouf’s film an acting career. However, reports have surfaced that his new movie only managed to sell one single ticket in the UK box office.

Man Down man down is a war drama started will both and directed by Dito Montiel. While the movie features an A-list cast, the feature film managed to only earn less than nine dollars at the UK box office. According to reports, a movie of this magnitude is expected sell multiple tickets, therefore, this could be a major disappointment.

That said, The Guardian reports of the movie was only played at a single movie theater in the UK. So it’s not a full distribution release. But, the movie did not have that much buzz attached it. While, LaBeouf’s performance received rave reviews, many audience members may have not received the memo about the production or connected with the film.

It is clear that Man Down is a box office flop, it was not supposed to be a monster hit box-office movie like Transformers and the Fate of the Furious production. But, for the rest of the cast, this was just another production to add to their IMDB credits as many of them have long careers in Hollywood and several productions set up for the future. But, considering how bad the movie did at the box office, it is not a topic of conversation I would like to bring around LaBeouf.

Marvel VP of Sales Blames Diversity for Low Sales

Marvel’s VP of sales, David Gabriel, had a unique theory as to why comic sales are decreasing for the company. Gabriel argues that there are too many “female characters.” Moreover, he asserted that there were too many “diverse” characters. Gabriel believed that their comic-book business did not focus on the core classic Marvel characters.

“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” Gabriel explained to iCv2.

Gabriel added: “That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I don’t know that that’s really true, but that’s what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against. “

Gabriel later contacted iCv2 to clarify his comment stressing that new superhero such a Squirrel Girl and Miss Marvel are popular.

“Discussed candidly by some of the retailers at the summit, we heard that some were not happy with the false abandonment of the core Marvel heroes and, contrary to what some said about characters ‘not working,’ the sticking factor and popularity for a majority of these new titles and characters like Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, The Mighty Thor, Spider-Gwen, Miles Morales, and Moon Girl, continue to prove that our fans and retailers ARE excited about these new heroes,” he said in a statement to iCv2 to clarify his original statement.

Overall, the comic business is huge for Marvel. In fact, Marvel is currently filming several various major feature films in Atlanta, Georgia. Marvel Studios is now filming the incredibly different ‘Black Panther’ movie with a predominately black cast. Also, Marvel Studios is now filming ‘The Avengers: Infinity War, which features a diverse ensemble. Following those two movies, Marvel will start shooting ‘Ant-Man 2’ to followed by ‘Captain Marvel.’

Needless to say, the initial reports of Gabriel’s comments towards diversity causing lower sales was quite surprising. But, examining Gabriel’s clarified statement it is clear that diversity is not only important for society it is popular in the comic book community.

CDC: Nearly 75% of All Kids Who Died from the Flu Were Unvaccinated

0

On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a study examining how flu vaccines impacted, affected, or saved children. Researchers found that at least three-quarters of kids who died from influenza between 2010 and 2014 were not vaccinated in the months before they got sick. Moreover, researchers found that 50% of the children who died were healthy before they became infected. Meanwhile, children that had asthma or developmental disorders were at especially high risk.

Dr. Alicia Fry and her colleagues argued that the annual influenza vaccine is crucial and important for children’s health.

“This study highlights the importance of annual influenza vaccination for children, especially those with underlying high-risk medical conditions,” Fry explained.

Researchers examined over 300 children who died of flu between 2010 and 2014. Of the children who died of the flu approximately 26% of those children had received a vaccine before they got sick. Scientists also discovered the flu vaccine decrease the risk of death in children by 65%. That said,  researchers found that the vaccine also helped reduce the possibility of dying by 51% in children that are considered high risk. However, less than half of all children were vaccinated against the flu from 2010 to 2014. The CDC reports that over 60 kids have died from influenza this year.

Influenza vaccine effectiveness

Two months ago, the CDC revealed that the current flu vaccine is more than twice as effective as 2014’s flu shot. Currently, the most common virus strain this year’s influenza A H3N2. The CDC says that the effectiveness is preventing this type of infection hovers around 50%. However, the flu shots effectiveness against influenza B strength is 73%. Consequently, the CDC says the overall protection against this year’s flu is around 48%. In comparison to 2014, the vaccine was only 19% effective, according to the CDC.

The CDC tells unvaccinated people who are six months old or older to get the flu vaccine still this year.

Google: YouTube’s Ad Problem is “Very, Very, Small”

0

Google has found itself in the middle of a PR crisis. Following report by the Washington Post that Google showed advertisements on extremist or otherwise racist and offensive videos, many companies removed their ads as from the Google advertising network. Now, Google is attempting to re-salvage their multibillion-dollar advertising business.

In an interview with Recode, Google’s chief business officer, Philip Schindler, discussed the seriousness of the Washington Post report and the advertisement pull-back by major companies.

“It has always been a small problem,” with “very very very small numbers” of ads running against videos that aren’t “brand- safe,” Google’s chief business officer told ReCode.

“And over the last few weeks, someone has decided to put a bit more of a spotlight on the problem.”

Schindler explained that there were “error rates” that affected and appeared on a small number of offensive videos. A Google spokesperson later told Recode advertisements appeared on less than “1/1000th of a percent of the advertisers’ total impressions.”

But even if those ads appeared on controversial and racist videos for a small percentage of the time, it has caused a massive problem for Google.

Several news outlets including the Wall Street Journal and the UK times have published reports and evidence of ads appearing on anti-somatic and racist videos over the past few weeks. Aforementioned had led to major companies such as AT&T and Walmart removing their advertising campaigns from Google’s network.

Following the backlash, Google responded by changing their policies towards advertisers along the more control of where their ads appear and promising to train their artificial intelligence better to detect extreme, racist or controversial videos.

This news comes after the 2016 presidential election. Whereby fake news dominated Facebook and other social media. In response to the false news reports, many companies including Google stepped up to address the spread of misinformation. Ultimately, businesses that allow for user submitted content are in a precarious place where moderation has to meet monetization.

Drake Reportedly Bought a TV Show to Star In It

Undoubtedly, Drake is one of the most famous hip-hop artists of our time. His latest album ‘More Life’ was streamed over a million times in a matter of days and set the record for wanted for the most streamed albums in his musical career. But Drake did not start off as a rapper. Drake began his career while working on the hit Toronto film TV series ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation.’ Now, the rapper may be headed back to set.

The hit British drama series top boy went off the air in 2013. The show ran for two seasons on Channel 4. However, according to reports, Drake brought the rights to the show in 2016. But the rapper is not interested in making money off the TV series it appears as though Drake will have an on-screen role in the reboot.

Ashley Walters, who plays the drug dealer on the show, told the Mirror, “We met up to start talking about the show, and we are working out a role for him. He loves acting, of course, he wanted a part. He’s going to be really hands on and is getting stuck into it.”

Drake’s venture into acting should not come as a surprise. He recently appeared on a podcast and expressed interest in rebooting his acting career.

“I think after I release More Life, which is this playlist I’m working on and finish this tour, I think I’m going to really start to position myself in the acting world and, hopefully, take some great roles.”

While there is no official word on what type of character Drake will play, considering the violence and gritty nature of the top boy series, it will be a far cry from his lighthearted skits he portrayed on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

However, Drake is not the only rapper expected to join the cast of top boy reboot. Rapper Skepta is also supposed to have a role, making a top boy and international hip-hop influenced series.

‘America’s Next Top Model’ Will No Longer Have an Age Limit

We think of modeling it is easy to think about young girls from Russia between the ages of 17 to 21. Casting young models has been the formula for over 20 seasons of the hit modeling reality-competition TV series, America’s Next Top Model. But one particular model is trying to make a drastic change to the show.

Just days after Tyra Banks took over America’s Next Top model from the runway model, fashion icon, producer, designer and TV industry superstar is already making changes to show’s casting call. On Saturday, Tyra Banks announced via Twitter that casting for the 24 cycle of America’s Next Top Model will consider applicants of all ages. The age requirement change is something that has never been done before. In fact, the limit had previously set at 25 years or younger.

“There have been 23 cycles of America’s Next Top Model,” Banks told her followers, “and every single cycle we say you have to be 27 years or younger. You know what I hear all the time? ‘Tyra, come on. Why have an age limit?’ So you know what? I’m taking that age limit off.’”

So if you’re an aspiring model, here’s your chance to star in the next season of America’s next top model.

Tyra Banks previously hosted America’s next top model for several seasons and even served as the show’s executive producer. Earlier this month Tyra Banks revealed that she would be taking over Rita Ora’s hosting duties. It is important to note,  Banks walked out of hosting the show when the series moved to VH1 last year after running for several seasons on the CW network.

Teen Arrested After Streaming Rape on Facebook Live

0

Last November, Facebook added a new feature to their social network the new feature allowed users to donate money to charities that they enjoy using.

But since then Facebook has caught themselves in the middle of a bitter controversy. The social networking platform has now become a place where users can share not only the best parts of their life but also the most tragic. For example, earlier this year a mother was arrested for allegedly taping her two-year-old to a wall and then sharing it on Facebook live. Users were so appalled by what they saw they quickly reported the police. Authorities later arrested the women.

While this story is terrifying enough, earlier this year several teens were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a teenager and then broadcasting it live on Facebook.

Now another I, the AP reports. The alleged rape was captured and watched by over 40 people who did not even reported to authorities. According to Chicago police, the police department is now investigating, and authorities plan to arrest more individuals involved with the incident. Police have said the attacks included five or six men and the boy involved in sexual assault was “one of the offenders in the video.”

Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson is expected to deliver more details on what transpired on Facebook live. However, the juvenile suspect now faces felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault manufacturer, child pornography, and dissemination of child pornography.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi explained police were not aware of the attack that occurred last March. It was not until the girl’s mother approached Chicago’s police superintendent Johnson after he was leaving the police station and showed him the video. Johnson explained that he was upset and shocked by the fact that 40 viewers saw the video and did not call authorities.

Since the video, the family has left the Chicago neighborhood after the family has received threats and people ringing their doorbell looking for the young girl.

The End of Internet Privacy is Near

0

The Democratic party is now urging President Trump to veto a bill that will allow internet providers the opportunity to sell information about their customer’s web browsing history, the AP reports.

Senate minority leader Charles Schumer and several Senate Democrats have signed an open letter calling on Trump to “tell us whose side he’s really on.” Schumer goes on to say that the new resolution if signed by Trump, will hurt Americans and consumers “will be stripped of critical privacy protections in a New York minute.”

Last October, the Federal Communications Commission issued a rule that allowed consumers to dictate how much information their internet providers can share. But many argued that the law would limit innovation in the industry. One of the rules, which has not taken effect yet, would require Internet providers such as AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon to obtain explicit consent before selling their customer’s web browsing history, app usage data, and other personal information to third-parties and advertisers.

Last Tuesday, the US House of Representatives voted to kill those set of privacy regulations. Republicans voted for the repeal, and most Democrats voted against it. The resolution was passed by the Senate on a 50-48 vote last Thursday and still needs to be signed by the President before becoming law.

While many Democrats and Americans are against the potential policy change, AT&T and Comcast publicly addressed the privacy concern. “There has been a lot of misleading talk about how the congressional action this week to overturn the regulatory overreach of the former FCC regulation will now permit us to sell sensitive customer data without consumers’ knowledge or consent. This is just not true,” wrote Gerard Lewis, Comcast senior vice president.

Ultimately, rules treated data as a property belonging to the consumer. But, with this new piece of regulation, your internet browsing data no longer belongs to you but, belongs to the company that allows you to surf the internet. Consequently, Internet Service Providers can sell your private information without your consent. The bill will also make it harder for the Federal Communications Commission to pursue policies similar to this one in the future.

‘Boss Baby’ Beats ‘Ghost in the Shell’ in the Box Office After Whitewashing Controversy

The animated comedy Boss Baby has beat Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost in the Shell in the box office. Early estimates released on Sunday shows DreamWorks animation took home $49 million. The movie featured Alec Baldwin and narrowly dethroned Disney’s two-week box office hit movie. The live-action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson took in $48 million in its third weekend.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell could not compete with the baby. The sci-fi remake of the hit Japanese anime opened with only $19 million, which is a bad start for a movie that cost $110 million to make. However, it is important to note that the feature film ran into a lot of controversy after producers cast Scarlett Johansson. Many fans called the casting decision another instance of whitewashing in Hollywood. In fact, days before the release of the movie the Asian American media group bashed the film.

“Apparently, in Hollywood, Japanese people can’t play Japanese people anymore,” MANAA President Robert Chan said in a report to the press. “There’s no reason why either Motoku or Hideo could not have been portrayed by Japanese or Asian actors instead of Scarlett Johansson and Michael Pitt. We don’t even get to see what they looked like in their original human identities — a further whitewash.”

In response to the backlash, Scarlett Johansson argued that the character she is playing is “identity-less.”

“I think this character is living a very unique experience, in that she is a human brain in an entirely machinate body,” Johansson said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” last this week. “She’s essentially identity-less. … I would never attempt to play a person of a different race, obviously.”

But, the backlash started way before the movie went into production. In fact, a Screen Crush report argued that producers reportedly wanted to hire a special effects company to make Johansson look less white.
