Hello, fear fans! Big news for you: Parker Finn’s horror sequel, Smile 2, is all set to scare the popcorn out of your hands on October 18th. Not only that, but the first teaser trailer has also gone live which promises some top-notch scream sessions.
All Set for a New Reign of Terror?
The movie’s plot takes an interesting turn. Smile 2 gets a new leading lady – the popstar Skye Riley, portrayed by the talented Naomi Scott. Remember her from Aladdin and Charlie’s Angels? Yeah, that’s the one. This exciting news broke first at CinemaCon this April. Skye’s character seems to reflect a larger-than-life, Taylor Swift-like pop icon who, sadly, is tied up in the chilling Smile curse.
An Eery Twist on Stardom
Smile 2 seems to have raised the bar from its prequel. With a bigger budget and wider reach, the movie looks sleeker, which definitely means more jump scares for us! The script doesn’t just revolve around a cursed pop star – there’s this super scary scene where a grinning mob chases Naomi Scott into the wings. That’s one eerie take on fame!
A Look Back at the Origin
Let’s rewind a bit for those who need a refresher. Smile is a sort of follow-up to Parker Finn’s short film Laura Hasn’t Slept. This little movie bagged a big win at the SXSW Festival’s Midnight Short category, taking home the Special Jury Recognition Prize. Smile introduced us to Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), who ends up facing a string of scary, baffling episodes after a spine-chilling encounter with a patient.
What’s Smile 2 About?
In Smile 2, Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), our pop queen, gears up for her global tour. But then, she is haunted by events which can’t be explained and they grow more and more horrifying. Amid the fear and the strain of fame, Skye must dive into her past before she loses herself entirely.
It’s a Starry Affair
Smile 2 is a team effort from Temple Hill and a stellar cast. Alongside Scott, we get to enjoy performances from Lukas Gage from The White Lotus and You, Rosemarie DeWitt from La La Land and the Poltergeist remake, Dylan Gelula from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Dream Scenario, Raúl Castillo from Army of the Dead and Knives Out, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley from The Wilds and On The Come Up, and Kyle Gallner from Red State.
