Kyle Richards’ Unexpected Presence in ‘Buying Beverly Hills’

In the reality TV world, Kyle Richards of ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ fame is no unfamiliar face. Unexpectedly, she made appearances in the second season of Netflix’s ‘Buying Beverly Hills.’ This reality show stars her estranged husband, Mauricio Umansky, along with their three daughters. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Richards explained that Umansky and their daughters have been supportive of her Bravo projects. Thus, she felt it’s time to reciprocate the support.

Her decision to show up on the second season of ‘Buying Beverly Hills’ was more than a casual move. Richards told the Us Weekly that she aimed to express her support for her family. As she added, it required balancing between two networks, Bravo and Netflix. Over the years, her husband and daughters have backed her on Bravo, causing fans to often commend her daughters.

Richards’ Limited Appearance in Season 1

Richards features in multiple scenes during the second season, appearing in three out of the nine episodes, as per IMDb.

Umansky, the founder of The Agency, communicated in 2022 to Us Weekly that their stiff competition with Bravo restricted Netflix from including Richards in the first season. However, Richards backed up her absence with different reasons. She stated that she was engaged in ‘Housewives’ and was also acting and producing, which left her with a full plate.

Family Separation Making Onscreen Debut in ‘Buying Beverly Hills’

When the second season of ‘Buying Beverly Hills’ was in production, news of Umansky and Richards’ split emerged. Vanity Fair reports Netflix benefited from this timing as the couple’s separation could fit into a storyline for their show. As per People magazine, after 27 years of marriage, the couple chose to live under the same roof despite their separation. This all happened when the family was filming ‘BBH’ in Aspen, July 2023.

Executive Producer, Liz Fine, mentioned that neither the producers nor the crew were aware of any issues in Umansky’s marriage before the filming. By the time they received the news, they had to recalibrate their filming plans.

Despite the split, Richards remains committed to appearing in ‘RHOBH’ Season 14. Reflecting on the new season during a May 2024 Amazon Livestream, Richards shared that many changes had occurred at her end. Assuring fans of a transformative season, she also added that Umansky would feature in the new RHOBH season despite their split.
