Marcus Rosner, known for his leading roles in Hallmark Channel romantic comedies, has a bustling schedule in 2024. Balancing acting with managing his Canadian production company, Rosner does have one passion project he’d be glad to make time for: a prequel to Hallmark’s short-lived series ‘Ride.’
Hopes for a ‘Ride’ Reboot
In a recent Us Weekly interview, Rosner expressed his desire to revisit his character Austin McMurray’s happier days. Fans were taken aback after the premiere of ‘Ride’ in March 2023, as they anticipated Rosner would appear regularly. Instead, his character, a champion bull rider, died tragically in a rodeo accident right at the start.
Despite appearing in a few flashbacks during the series, Rosner believes fans would cherish seeing Austin’s life before the accident, including his matrimonial life with Missy McMurray, played by Tiera Skovbye. Skovbye’s character continued to reside on the ranch after Austin’s passing.
“I would love to pitch Hallmark on doing an Austin and Missy (spin-off),” Rosner told Us Weekly. He added: “I would love to do a prequel Christmas movie set on the ranch, showcasing the good times.”
Bonding On and Off the Set
Rosner’s affection for his character was evident as he confessed: “I love those characters,” and jokingly admitted, “because I’m one of them.” Rosner’s admiration extends beyond his character, though, citing the relationships he shared with his ‘Ride’ co-stars as a driving factor for making the project happen.
For instance, Rosner had a close relationship with co-star Tiera Skovbye and he hopes to collaborate with her again. Moreover, having previously worked with Sara Garcia, who played ranch-hand Valeria Galindo in ‘Ride,’ Rosner seems excited at the prospect of reuniting with both actresses.
What Happened to ‘Ride’ Post-Cancellation?
Despite Hallmark canceling ‘Ride’ after just one season, it was aired by the CW in January 2024. While fans hoped it would be renewed, the series has not been picked up for a second season.
Most of the original ‘Ride’ stars have since found success in other projects. Marcus Rosner continues his streak in Hallmark movies, playing the lead role in ‘Falling Like Snowflakes’ premiered in June 29, 2024.
Other co-stars, including Jake Foy, Beau Mirchoff, Nancy Travis and Tyler Jacob Moore, have also been busy with an array of acting and production ventures, filling up their post-‘Ride’ days productively.
Despite not being picked up for a second season, the legacy of ‘Ride’ continues to make waves among the fans and its cast. Especially for Rosner, who cherishes his time on the series, and yearns for a new opportunity to tell Austin McMurray’s story once more.
