Get ready for some animation extravaganza! Illumination Entertainment is back in the game with Despicable Me 4! You must remember Inside Out 2 from Pixar, a recent mega-hit. Everyone’s attention was keen on Illumination, wondering if they could match that success.
Plot: New Family, Old Problems
The story in Despicable Me 4 takes a different spin. Beloved characters Gru and family find themselves in witness protection this time. Soon, the household sees a new addition – none other than Gru Jr., a not-so-favorite member. There’s also Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina from school, ready to stir up troubles.
However, the script seems to cave in due to its wide scope. The heart-warming connection between Gru and his kids is not as strong this time. Most of the focus is on Gru’s baby not liking him! Meanwhile, the original kids – Margo, Edith, and Agnes – feel more like side characters.
Voices: Theater Giants Fall Short
Even though Despicable Me 4 boasts big names like Will Ferrell and Sofía Vergara, their performances lack vivacity. Among the cast, Joey King delivers the only noteworthy voice-acting with her distinctively lispy touch. Surprisingly, even Steve Carell’s usually lively Gru portrayal takes a backseat.
Minions: Crazy Fun with a Dose of Repetition
The Minions’ storyline provides a burst of laughter but feels slightly mismatched with their superhero twist. The humor also could have been more up-to-date. Using same-old, decade-old gags in 2024 doesn’t tick the fun-dial much.
Energy Level: Below Par
Compared to other recent films, Despicable Me 4 falls short in the energy department. Your fun quotient majorly depends on your love for the Minions and their humor style. While nothing may upset you in the movie, it feels a tad pointless, to be honest.
Should You Watch It?
Facing the big question now – should you go watch Despicable Me 4? The answer’s a yes if you’re a franchise follower or a fan of the Minions’ comedy. However, remember to keep your expectations in check. Despicable Me 4 is set to hit the screens on July 3, 2024.
Remember, everyone’s perspective differs. You might find the film more enjoyable than we did! So, have a blast at the movies!
