Hey there, Dexter fans! We’ve got some pretty interesting news to share. Paramount+ recently gave us a sneak peek at the new Dexter prequel series, titled ‘Dexter: Original Sin,’ featuring Patrick Gibson.
Facing a Cold Reception
The idea was to get us all excited, but it seems some die-hard fans aren’t too happy with what they’re seeing. Instead of cheers, the first-look images caused a bit of a stir, and we’re not talking about the good kind.
Meet the Young Dexter
To stir up a bit of hype, the folks behind the production revealed Patrick Gibson as the teen version of lead character Dexter Morgan. Remember Michael C. Hall, who brought this character to life in the original series that aired in 2006? Dexter: Original Sin’ is set years before that, zooming in on Dexter’s early life.
You might recall ‘Dexter: New Blood,’ the smash hit from 2021 that followed the original Dexter. The new prequel seems to be hoping for another win by exploring how the character turned into the serial killer we came to know in the original series. We’re talking 15 years prior!
Checking Out the First Look
In the recently released images, we’ve got Patrick Gibson donning the role of Dexter alongside other familiar faces like Christian Slater and Molly Brown. Slater is stepping up as Harry Morgan, with Brown in the role of Debra Morgan. It’s somewhat of a reunion as Clyde Phillips, who led the original series, returns for the prequel. The bad news, though, is there’s no release date yet.
Fans Not Too Thrilled
The unveiling of the images sure caused a scene, but not the positive one Paramount+ was likely hoping for. Fans quickly pointed out that Gibson’s Dexter didn’t look much younger than Hall’s Dexter, despite supposedly being set 15 years earlier. This led to a wave of criticism and some serious PR issues.
Fans didn’t hold back their disappointment, flooding Twitter with complaints. They reckon Gibson doesn’t look way more youthful than Hall did, which kinda defeats the whole idea of this being a prequel about a younger Dexter. There’s been a lot of chatter about this, with some fans now calling it more of a ‘reboot’ than a ‘prequel.’
Souring Expectations?
It seems like fans are feeling let down by the visual interpretation of a younger Dexter. They were expecting to see a significant age difference, keen to explore how Dexter transformed into the character we know from the original series. The first-look images certainly didn’t match these expectations, leaving fans feeling pretty underwhelmed.
Right now, fan criticism is still pouring in. Meanwhile, the original Dexter and its follow-up, Dexter: New Blood are up for viewing on Paramount+. As for the release of Dexter: Original Sin, we’re still in the dark. And it remains to be seen how the creators will tackle the fan backlash.
So, to wrap this up: The people making Dexter: Original Sin may need to do some serious reconsidering regarding how to portray a younger Dexter. Die-hard fans were thrilled at the prospect of seeing Dexter’s early years, and this is something that the production team needs to deliver on. The big question is: Can they meet the high expectations for the much-anticipated prequel series? We’ll have to wait and see!
