Filming in Fantasia Film Festival
Elijah Wood, acclaimed for his role as Frodo in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series, recently starred in the premiere of his new movie, ‘Bookworm’, at the Fantasia Film Festival. The film tells the story of an illusionist, played by Wood, who journeys to New Zealand to look after his estranged daughter, Mildred, when her mom falls into a coma.
In the movie, Mildred pursues her dad to explore the vast wilderness of New Zealand in search of a mythical panther. They face peril and thrilling encounters at every corner. Nell Fisher, an equally talented actor, plays the character of Mildred.
Red Carpet Talks with Elijah Wood
On the red carpet, Wood spared time for a brief chat. While he saved most of his responses for an interview to be released next week, he did drop a major clue regarding a possible reentry into the ‘Lord of the Rings’ ecosystem.
When asked about reprising his role as Frodo in Andy Serkis’s ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, Wood responded with excitement. “Returning to New Zealand to work with those individuals in this context…it would be amazing,” he said. “Diving back into a world that is so dear to me simply sounds fun.”
Interest Towards Genre Cinema
Wood also demonstrated his ongoing support for genre cinema. His company, SpectreVision, was behind some of the coolest independent horror movies recently. ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’ and ‘Mandy’ are among them. SpectreVision is also credited for ‘The Monkey’, a film by Oz Perkins.
Discussing his experience with ‘The Greasy Strangler’, a movie that left a significant impact on him, Wood made an interesting connection. “Oh, I LOVE ‘The Greasy Strangler’. Toby Harvard wrote ‘The Greasy Strangler’, and he’s also the writer of ‘Bookworm’,” he shared.
Despite having the same writer, Wood clarified that ‘Bookworm’ doesn’t have the same eerie feel as ‘The Greasy Strangler’. Fans can expect a more delightful atmosphere from ‘Bookworm’.
