The Rust Trial Controversy Takes a Turn
Remember hearing about Alec Baldwin’s case being dismissed? Get this! The Rust case isn’t over just yet, and things are starting to heat up again. Special prosecutor Kari Morrissey has just called out Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s decision to throw out Baldwin’s case. This is causing a huge stir and has got everyone talking again.
Here’s the Dish on the Baldwin Case
Morrissey thinks Judge Sommer messed up in dismissing Baldwin’s case. On July 31st, a document became public where she said that the Judge wanted to end the trial quickly, and this messed up her judgement. Morrissey actually said, “…the Court got things wrong on July 12, 2024, and wrongly dismissed the case against Mr. Baldwin.”
What About Armorer Gutierrez-Reed’s Case?
But the drama isn’t only revolving around Baldwin. Remember Hannah Gutierrez-Reed? She’s the armorer who was getting the guns ready on the set of Rust. She’s smack dab in the middle of this legal storm too! Here’s the thing, Morrissey also doesn’t think Gutierrez-Reed should get a second shot at a trial. Her argument is pretty simple. In Baldwin’s case, the state had the bullets being questioned while in Gutierrez-Reed’s case, her lawyer was the one who apparently had them before the trial began.
Defending Gutierrez-Reed
More drama? Yep, there’s more! Gutierrez-Reed’s lawyers, Jason Bowles and Monnica L. Barreras, are pushing for her case to be looked at again. They’re blunt about their viewpoint. If Baldwin’s case was thrown out, then Gutierrez-Reed’s case should be as well. Their exact words in a motion they filed last month were, “How can it be any different with Ms. Gutierrez-Reed’s case?”
The Ongoing Legal Battle
As you can imagine, everyone is on pins and needles, waiting to see how this plays out. The big questions are; will Morrissey’s argument stand and, will Gutierrez-Reed get her retrial? Let’s not forget there’s a lot of drama waiting to be uncovered yet.
The Implications of the Trial
The whole situation around the Rust trial serves as a reminder of how unpredictable and complex legal cases can be. But one thing’s for sure, the case isn’t over just yet, and the shockwaves from this tragic event keep roiling Hollywood. All we can hope for now is that justice is finally served for everyone affected by this terrible incident.
