The Buzz of the Presidential Election on SNL
Hey, good people! Can you feel the heat? Yes, the 2024 Presidential Election is warming up and everyone’s nighttime comedy favorite, Saturday Night Live (SNL) is busy scouting for the big shots to fill candidate shoes. To get us thrilled, they’ve already cast the gifted Maya Rudolph to fit back into her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. Pretty awesome, right?
Now, guess who they had their eyes on for Harris’ sidekick Tim Walz? Drum roll, please… It was the fantastic Steve Martin! Yes, you got it right. They planned to have this comedy star morph into Walz for a few guest appearances before the Election Day. Sounds like a cool idea, doesn’t it?
Unexpected Twist with Steve Martin
But here’s where the story takes a twist. The wonderful comedian Steve Martin, adored for his work in the Hulu show Only Murders in the Building, isn’t much keen on returning to SNL. Fans got quite hyped when the idea of Martin as Walz began to create a buzz on the internet. SNL boss, Lorne Michaels, thought why not give it a try and called Martin. And guess what? Martin said, no thanks!
Martin cleared the air with his thoughts to the Los Angeles Times quoting, “I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no. I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not good at impressions. You need someone who can really get Walz right.’ I was a pick because of my gray hair and spectacles.”
The Legacy of Steve Martin in SNL
Though not a regular in the SNL, Steve Martin boasts an arresting history with the show. Did you have any idea that he has been the host on SNL for an astounding 16 times since 1976? That’s quite a legacy! But about playing Walz, Martin insists SNL should find an actual impersonator. He mentioned, “Again, they need an actual impersonator for that. They’ll find somebody really good. I would be struggling.”
Steve Martin’s Current Projects
Currently, Steve Martin is packed with his popular show on Hulu, Only Murders in the Building. His co-stars are Martin Short and Selena Gomez. The preparation for the fourth season is underway, which will be available on Hulu from August 27. With new faces joining the cast, we can expect this season to be a burst of excitement.
Who’s Up for Walz’s Role on SNL?
So, now that we know Steve Martin has turned down the Walz’s role, let’s sit back and see who SNL turns to for this role. Got any ideas? Don’t be shy, sprinkle them in the comments section. Just to remind you, SNL returns to NBC on September 28. It’s going to be a blast!
Remember, it’s the surprise element that adds the cherry on this fun cake called SNL. Keep your predictions coming and stay tuned for more updates.
