New AirPods 4 Models Impress – Nearly Outperforming the AirPods Pro 2

BusinessNew AirPods 4 Models Impress - Nearly Outperforming the AirPods Pro 2

Key Takeaways:

– Apple introduced two models of AirPods 4, with identical looks.
– The pricier variant is equipped with active noise canceling (ANC).
– They remain uncompetitive in terms of failing to offer replaceable batteries.
– Early reviews promise impressive noise cancellation, especially of low-frequency sounds.

The Noise Cancellation Advantage of AirPods 4

In the sphere of wireless earbuds, Apple’s AirPods hold an undeniable prestige, especially among Apple product users. The recent launch of the AirPods 4 has added weight to this reputation. Akin to their predecessors in appearance, these new models are noticeably improved in function. The evolution is particularly noticeable in the high-end variant, which now includes a feature previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro – active noise canceling (ANC). The ANC feature utilises Apple’s proprietary technology, including the transparency mode, which allows some ambient sound to pass through.

Though there are two models of the AirPods 4, they are nonetheless a bit confusing to differentiate. The upgraded model offers not only ANC but also a MagSafe charging case with a Find-My speaker. Interestingly, despite not having silicone ear tips for an audio seal like the AirPods Pro, the AirPods 4 have received accolades for their noise-canceling prowess, especially in the face of low-end drones like engine noise or airplane noise.

Spatial Audio and Other Features

Another differentiator of the AirPods 4 is its gleaning Spatial Audio. The feature, though be seen as a gimmick by some, is appreciated by many for the space and depth it can add to movies and TV shows. However, users have to miss the head-tracking part in the non-Pro pods.

Another notable feature lacking in the base model of the AirPods 4 is the Pro’s stem gestures, which allow users to control the volume by touching the stem of the earbud. The hearing health features introduced in the AirPods Pro also won’t be available for the AirPods 4.

Consideration of Battery Life

Despite the numerous advancements, the Achilles heel of the new AirPods 4 arguably lies in its lack of user-replaceable batteries. Their rivals, such as Fairbuds, make use of standard batteries, which can be replaced by the user in a minute or so. However, Apple, known for its technological prowess, seems to be lagging in this regard.

Furthermore, the complexity of the AirPods 4 design poses challenges for recycling. There is hope for Apple to introduce a trade-in program allowing old AirPods to be used as raw materials for new ones, as part of a comprehensive solution addressing the lifecycle of these products.

Conclusion

With an array of impressive features like ANC and Spatial Audio, the new AirPods 4 promise an improvement over the previous generation. However, the lack of user-replaceable batteries remains a thorny issue, impacting both user convenience and environmental concerns. Despite these concerns, the AirPods 4 seem to be making headway in the wireless earbuds market, nearly outdoing the AirPods Pro 2.
