Florence Pugh Shines in Thunderbolts Trailer, MCU’s Noticeable Trends

Exciting Moments from Thunderbolts Trailer

Remember Florence Pugh from Marvel’s Black Widow? Well, she’s back and she’s shining brighter than ever! Marvel recently launched their trailer for Thunderbolts and trust us, it’s a thrill. Florence playing Yelena is the main event and fans couldn’t be happier. She’s not alone – many other beloved characters from the Marvel Universe share the stage. Julia Louis Dreyfus is also in the mix, entering at the last moment as an essential character putting together the Thunderbolts team.

Overused Themes in Female Hero Storylines

Fans are super stoked about the upcoming movie. However, some patterns in the Marvel Universe are popping up a lot. Have you noticed how most female Marvel heroes seem to have a rough past? It feels like the theme of emotionally scarred heroes is intertwined with nearly every female character’s storyline. It’s a pattern we see in characters like Black Widow, Wanda, Valkyrie and Hope. Although it adds layers to their character, perhaps it’s time for a change.

Yelena Belova: Similarities with Natasha Romanoff

Florence Pugh’s Yelena appears to be drifting towards the same pattern. Taking on the mantle from Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha, Yelena’s backstory seems eerily familiar. Just like Natasha, Yelena was trained as a spy by the Red Room. Her main focus? Avenging Natasha’s death.

More Mournful Backstories

Even our favorite characters haven’t been spared from tragic histories. Take Wanda Maximoff for example. We’ve seen her evolve from a grieving girl who sacrifices herself for experiments, to a woman dealing with incredible powers and her love’s death. Let’s not forget how Valkyrie from Thor became a soldier for the Grandmaster after losing her sisterhood.

Shifting Gears from the Stereotype

The consistent depiction of female heroes as troubled figures seems to cast a shadow on the Marvel Universe. The idea that these characters are defined by their dark pasts seems overdone. When it comes to our female heroes, it’s time for some positivity! Especially since the audience for Marvel isn’t just adults, but kids as well who could use some happy, strong characters to look up to.

An Optimistic Twist with Kamala Khan

There’s good news though! The introduction of Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan promises a change of pace. Why? Well, her character’s backstory carries a much lighter tone. Kamala is quickly becoming a fan-favorite with both grown-ups and kids. Maybe it’s time the Marvel Universe added more feel-good female roles to their lineup. More than just managing a smile, these characters could use some joy amidst their struggles.

Can We Expect Change with Thunderbolts?

As Thunderbolts gears up for its release on May 2, 2025, fans all over the world are waiting eagerly. Will the MCU switch things up, breaking free from the pattern of emotionally burdened female heroes? Or will they stick with the same old formula? Either way, Marvel’s storytelling keeps us coming back for more. All we can do now is wait and watch if they decide to give us what we crave.
