– Under Harris and President Biden, an initiative was launched to facilitate migrants to bypass the southern border.
– Public money reportedly funded the salaries of foreign nationals to ease migrants into the United States.
– The initiative has cost over $80 million from taxpayers’ money, according to the GOP.

Under Scrutiny: Harris’s Open-Border Stance

Republicans in the House Judiciary Committee are raising concern regarding Vice President Kamala Harris. The focus is a new report shedding light on how Harris reportedly directed millions in taxpayer money towards supporting United Nations open-border initiatives.

Accentuating Risks and Loopholes in Open-Border Initiatives

The 12-page dossier, dubbed “Inside the Biden-Harris Administration’s Open-borders Alliance with United Nations Bureaucrats,” explores an estimated 5.8 million illegal immigrants’ presence in the U.S. since January 2021. Moreover, an additional 1.9 million undocumented aliens were dubbed as “gotaways.”

Per the GOP’s document, influx images of undocumented persons at the southwest border have turned into a political liability for President Biden and Vice President Harris. Instead of resolving the issue of undocumented immigration, the Biden-Harris administration reportedly diverted attention, partnering with United Nations open-border bureaucrats to enable migrants to bypass the southwest border.

In-Depth: Safe Mobility Initiative

Interestingly, the report spotlights the Safe Mobility Initiative. The State Department announced this plan in June 2023. The Biden-Harris administration oversaw the plan, which allowed undocumented migrants to sidestep the southern border.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees allegedly propped up the initiative. They claimed it would help migrants escape the risks linked with onward movement. In other words, it swiftly moved undocumented individuals from the southern border to the U.S. interior to sidestep damaging optics at the border.

The initiative reportedly allowed aliens outside the U.S. to consult with foreign nationals working for the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration. These organizations supposedly helped undocumented migrants to move to the U.S via various ways, including family reunification and work pathways.

The Continuation of the Safe Mobility Initiative and Its Implications

The GOP alleges the Safe Mobility Offices are situated in countries like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Ecuador. And U.S. taxpayers fund all of them. The document estimates the Biden-Harris administration has resettled in the U.S. over 18,000 aliens from Central and South America via the initiative.

Moreover, 67,000 aliens have been referred to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for potential resettlement. Further, another 7,000 illegal aliens were identified as potentially eligible to move to the U.S via other means.

The report further found that only 14% of International Organization for Migration employees were U.S. citizens. This statistic evidences that taxpayer money was used to pay salaries of foreign nationals facilitating illegal migration into the U.S.

The Economic Impact: Who Bears the Cost?

Using figures, the GOP argues that through the UNHCR, about $67.1 million of public funds was spent to fund the SMOs. The International Organization for Migration ended up spending an additional $14.6 million from taxpayer money for the cause. The total expenditure stands over $80 million. The GOP promises to continue scrutinizing the Biden-Harris administration’s open-border policies.
