Breaking NewsBronx Driver Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Involving E-Bicyclist

Delayed Justice for E-Bicyclist Death

A year-long investigation by New York law enforcement has led to the charges against 32-year-old Emilio Berrios. The Bronx motorist, who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run, was cuffed on Friday. The tragic incident resulted in the death of 64-year-old e-bicyclist Hua Pan, who was struck down while biking near his home in Morris Park.

Hit-and-Run Details Emerge

Police reports reveal that Berrios was operating a white pickup truck when he reportedly ignored a red light. This violation happened on Williamsbridge Road at Pierce Avenue on April 5, 2023, at around 11:22 p.m. Pan, who was heading eastward on Pierce Avenue, got caught in the truck’s path. He was tragically hit as he passed through a green traffic light.

The Scene of the Horrific Accident

Following the collision, Pan was found by responding law enforcement officers less than 200 feet from his Pierce Avenue residence. He was discovered unconscious on the asphalt, suffering from a severe head injury. His daughter and son-in-law happened upon the horrific scene as they were driving home.

Victim Was a Hardworking Immigrant

The late Pan was known as a hardworking immigrant hailing from Fujian province in China. He migrated to the U.S around thirty years ago and earned a living as a chef. Pan was equally loved and respected for his character and work ethic. According to his son-in-law, Ken Ruo, he was a devoted grandfather who spent his off days taking the kids to the park. Pan was also looking forward to retiring at the age of 65.

Victim’s Family Makes Heartbreaking Discovery

The series of events that unfolded were nothing less than a heart-wrenching nightmare for Pan’s family. His daughter and son-in-law realized the victim was their beloved patriarch based on his clothing and his bicycle by the roadside. According to Ruo, their 12-year-old son, who was at home during the time of the accident, witnessed the horrific aftermath. The trauma of the incident severely impacted the young boy’s mental state, leaving him unable to sleep that night.

Berrios Accused of Leaving the Scene

Following the accident, Berrios is accused of fleeing the scene in his vehicle without reporting the fatal collision to the authorities. Law enforcement has accused him of recklessly endangering lives and criminally negligent homicide.

Medical Efforts Fall Short

Emergency medical personnel rushed Pan to the Jacobi Medical Center following the incident. Despite their efforts, the injuries Pan suffered proved fatal.

In conclusion, Berrios will now face justice in a court of law. The outcome of this case will not bring Hua Pan back to his family and friends. However, it will serve as a grim reminder of the deadly consequences of reckless driving and the importance of following road safety measures.
