According to the movie, after Luke returned for his final training, Yoda proclaimed him as the last Jedi – a status dependent on a face-off with Darth Vader.

Majority Accepts Skywalker as a Jedi

Moreover, the sequel trilogy also identifies Luke as a Jedi. The clear reference of ‘The Last Jedi’ in the title leaves little room for doubt about his Jedi Knight status. It’s clear that, regardless of the potential theoretical inconsistencies, the majority of fans and creative minds behind the series view Skywalker as a Jedi Knight.
In the eyes of the fans, the commonly accepted views on Skywalker’s status overrule procedural formalities.
