Bronx Scooter Gunman Arrested After Deadly Street Shooting

Breaking NewsBronx Scooter Gunman Arrested After Deadly Street Shooting

Yunior Calcano Baez Charged in Fatal Bronx Shooting

In a drastic turn of events, a young man accused of a deadly scooter shootout in the Bronx has been arrested and charged. The news was released by the police on Thursday. Yunior Calcano Baez, 21, has been accused of the incident that took place on April 16. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter among others.

The Tragic End of Miguel Doleo

Miguel Doleo, a 29-year-old father of six, was the unfortunate victim of this violent crime. He was spending time on East Mount Eden Avenue near Townsend Avenue around 6.15 PM when the tragic incident occurred. According to police reports, four individuals on two mopeds showed up, leaving chaos and bloodshed in their wake. The co-passengers on the mopeds reportedly fired around ten bullets into the crowd. Doleo was hit in the chest and leg, causing fatal injuries. The three other men that were with him were also shot in their legs but are expected to make a recovery.

Following the shooting, Doleo was rushed to the BronxCare Health System. However, despite the best efforts by medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries. Lauren Delgado, Doleo’s sister, mournfully told the Daily News, “He was my whole life.” She emphasized the poignant fact that he leaves behind six children.

Repercussions in Mott Haven

Doleo resided in Mott Haven, a neighborhood roughly three miles from the shooting scene. At this point, police are considering the possibility of gang involvement in the shooting. Before the fatal shooting, NYPD’s community reply team had been involved in a local initiative. As stated by the NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Kaz Daughtry, they were “going aggressively after people on scooters.” Following Doleo’s death, it looks like this initiative will become an operational focus.

The Hunt Continues

Baez’s legal proceedings in the Bronx Criminal Court were ongoing as of Thursday evening. Meanwhile, the search is still on for the remaining men involved in the shooting. As investigations continue, the police hope to bring the other culprits involved to justice soon.

With regard to law enforcement’s efforts and policy changes, local authorities emphasize the need for perseverance. Deputy Commissioner Daughtry has reiterated that the focus will continue to be “primarily on individuals riding around on illegal scooters dirt bikes and ATVs.”

A Fight For Justice

While this news offers some relief, it is only the beginning of the end. The arrest of Baez is a significant step towards justice, but, sadly, it does not erase the tragedy and loss experienced by Doleo’s family and friends. The loss leaves a tear in the fabric of a community forever scarred by such needless violence.

Reflecting on Doleo’s life, his sister grieves not only for a lost brother but for the six children he leaves behind. As friends, family and the community continue to mourn his loss, their hope for justice stirs more strongly than ever. Meanwhile, law enforcement is leaving no stone unturned in bringing the remaining perpetrators to book. In these difficult times, the victims’ resilience is a testament to the human spirit’s strength and capacity to hope.
