Green Bay Packers Tipped to Sign Veteran Linebacker Kwon Alexander

SportsGreen Bay Packers Tipped to Sign Veteran Linebacker Kwon Alexander

Key Takeaways:
– Green Bay Packers might rope in veteran linebacker, Kwon Alexander.
– Alexander’s signing could provide depth to the Packers’ linebacker role.
– The Packers recently parted ways with De’Vondre Campbell, making room for a new player.
– Despite Alexander’s injuries and age, his role could be vital in grooming the rookies.

Green Bay Packers Eye Kwon Alexander

The NFL fraternity is abuzz with whispers of a potential surprise. The Green Bay Packers seem poised to bolster their squad by recruiting the seasoned linebacker Kwon Alexander. This move isn’t set to turn many heads, but the depth and experience Alexander brings to the Packers could prove handy.

Alexander’s Prolific NFL Journey

At one point, the promising Alexander was projected as a future stalwart in the NFL. Although injuries have played spoilsport with this prediction, Alexander has managed to craft an impactful career. Drafted in the fourth round in 2015 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he quickly made his mark and was named starter during his rookie year.

By his second season, Alexander was wreaking havoc for the opposition. He bagged the lead title in the NFL with 108 solo tackles, which he followed with a Pro Bowl selection in 2017. Such was Alexander’s impact that San Francisco 49ers offered him a lucrative four-year deal worth $54 million in 2019, despite his ACL injury the previous season.

However, his fortunes spiralled in Bay Area; he couldn’t replicate his previous success. Alexander was traded to the New Orleans Saints during the 2020 season. Since then, he has changed teams quite frequently. His career also continues to be plagued by injuries as he played over 12 games in only one of the past six seasons. Despite these struggles, Alexander’s veteran perspective could be invaluable to a young team like the Packers.

Impressive Depth in Packers’ Linebacker Role

Green Bay Packers’ linebacker position has piqued interest and concern over the years. However, 2024 might paint a different picture. The Packers boast a promising lineup, with players like Quay Walker showing their potential. Having been a first-round draft pick, Walker showed glimpses of brilliance in his two seasons in the NFL.

Also, the introduction of a new defensive scheme by Jeff Hafley, the defensive coordinator, could unlock Walker’s potential in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Isaiah McDuffie, despite his size, managed to impress in 2023 with a career-best 86 total tackles.

Moreover, the Packers have made impressive additions to their roster in the current year’s draft. Second-round pick, Edgerrin Cooper, is expected to make waves in his rookie year. Early reviews from off-season workouts hint at a grand start for him at the training camp. Fellow rookie Ty’Ron Hopper might also find a role in the rotational capacity, showing promise in his ability to attack downhill.

Veteran Eric Wilson is also likely to play an instrumental role in the Packers setup. At 29, Wilson has already made notable contributions to the team’s special teams unit, which included recovering a fumble in the playoff game against the 49ers.

Given the depth in their roster, the Packers may not necessarily need to rope in a free agent like Alexander. However, their robust recruitment strategy continues to keep NFL fans guessing, and Alexander’s signing could add an interesting twist to the upcoming season.
