Mia Goth Takes Center Stage
The horror-thriller trilogy by Ti West concludes with its final movie, MaXXXine. This film has some pretty awesome acting. But, it’s a bit disappointing when it comes to the story. First off, let’s talk about Mia Goth, who plays Maxine Minx. She’s awesome in this movie! She manages to keep us glued to our screens. Her character Maxine is an ambitious actress with a troubled past and a scary present.
Star Performances Keep Us Hooked
While Goth shines bright, she’s not the only star in this movie. Kevin Bacon really makes you remember his character, John Labat. He plays a not so nice private investigator that’s really creepy, making the movie feel just right. Another great performance comes from Giancarlo Esposito as Teddy Night, Maxine’s agent. Similarly, Elizabeth Debicki angels her role as Elizabeth Bender, who helps start Maxine’s career. Even with the plot all over the place, the top-notch performances make the film enjoyable.
Storyline Struggles
The cast does a great job, but the plot of MaXXXine…well, not so much. It’s as if two different movies are fighting for our attention. In one, Maxine is dealing with guilt for surviving, and in the other, she’s targeted by a serial killer. Yet, neither storyline really sticks with us. The big plot twist isn’t surprising, which is a bummer. The story lacks depth, leaving us wanting more.
Seeing the ’80s in a New Light
One cool thing about MaXXXine is how it looks. The movie takes us back to the ’80s rock ‘n’ roll era. West keeps things suspenseful without using common scary tricks, which is refreshing. Even with a predictable twist, the anticipation and realistic effects make things better.
Wrapping Up the Trilogy
Though the movie could have had a better plot, it does have a nice ending. Maxine’s life finally makes sense, and the trilogy ends on a decent note with MaXXXine. Despite its plot problems, the film wraps up the thrilling series well.
Final Take
MaXXXine ends in a neat but predictable way. The amazing acting makes up for the not-so-great storyline. But, the plot twist that we saw coming is a letdown. A complex character like Maxine deserved a better story. Despite its flaws, MaXXXine’s cool ’80s look and satisfying ending make it worth watching.
