Animation is always a crowd favorite, and ‘Despicable Me 4’ just proved it. This weekend, it was the king of the box office, grabbing over $44 million. This is only a 40% drop from last weekend, which is pretty impressive. And guess what? The total number in the domestic market is already over $211.1 million. Well, this beloved franchise sure knows how to keep its fans happy. You’ll be thrilled to know, they aren’t stopping here. Will another sequel in 2026 be a hit?
New Face on the Block: ‘Longlegs’
You know what they say about underdogs, right? They often surprise us, and that’s exactly what happened with ‘Longlegs’. Even though its budget was a modest $10 million, it managed to grab a whopping $22.6 million from 2510 theaters. To top it off, Neon, the distributor, says this is its best-ever debut. Critics are loving it too, so it looks like success is just around the corner for director Oz Perkins and star Maika Monroe.
Pixar Continues to Impress
Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2′ also had a great weekend. It earned a cool $20.7 million, making it the studio’s highest-grossing film – impressive, right? The total score in the domestic market is now a massive $572 million. Also doing well was ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’, a horror sequel that made $11.8 million. Its total domestic collection now is $116.2 million, beating all expectations.
Fly Me to the Moon – a Misfire?
Things weren’t all rainbows and sunshine this weekend, though. ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ could only get to the $10 million mark, even though it had a budget of $100 million and a star-studded cast, including Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. Despite this, Sony’s ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ continued to perform quite well, earning another $4.4 million and taking its total domestic collection to $184 million.
Movies Delayed and Underperforming
‘Horizon: Chapter 2’ had its release pushed back due to low ratings of ‘Chapter 1’. This weekend, ‘Chapter 1′ lost over 700 screens, earning only $2.4 million. Other let-downs were ‘MaXXXine’, which suffered an 80% drop in its second weekend, and ‘The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot’, which saw a 63% drop.
What’s Next?
Next weekend, everyone’s betting on ‘Twisters’ to take down ‘Despicable Me 4′. But can ‘Longlegs’ maintain its momentum? We sure hope so. From big names to indie hits, this weekend had its share of surprises. Stay tuned for more updates and gossip about what happens at the box office. As always, feel free to give us your predictions and thoughts in the comments.
