Details Emerge in Apalachee High Shooting Tragedy

New information has surfaced regarding the tragic shooting at Apalachee High School, which resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to nine others. According to family sources, Marcee Gray, the mother of the accused shooter Colt Gray, reportedly called the school on the morning of the incident to warn about an impending emergency.

Annie Brown, Colt Gray’s aunt, informed 11Alive that Marcee Gray contacted the school to alert them about the possibility of an “extreme emergency.” This claim was corroborated by a detailed report from the Washington Post, which revealed that Marcee Gray had also texted her sister, Brown, stating that her 14-year-old son needed to be located immediately.

The Post confirmed that a 10-minute phone call was made from Marcee Gray’s phone on September 4 around 9:50 a.m. Marcee Gray later contacted the newspaper to confirm the details of the texts and call logs, expressing deep remorse and saying she “cannot fathom the pain and suffering” of the affected families.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Barrow County authorities were alerted to an active shooter at approximately 10:20 a.m., and Colt Gray was apprehended shortly thereafter. The deceased victims have been identified as teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie, and students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, all of whom were 14 years old.

A student reported that an administrator came to his math class looking for Colt Gray but left with the wrong student’s belongings. The Barrow County School System has not responded to questions about the family’s claims and referred inquiries to law enforcement.

In a related development, Colt Gray’s father, Colin Gray, faces serious charges for allegedly providing an AR-15-style weapon to his son despite being aware of the potential danger. Colin Gray is charged with two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of involuntary manslaughter, and eight counts of cruelty to children. This case marks the first time in Georgia history that a parent of a school shooting suspect has been charged in connection with the crime, according to District Attorney Brad Smith.
