Netflix Pulls the Plug on Kevin Spacey’s ‘House of Cards’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s hit political drama House of Cards is coming to an end. Netflix is currently filming the sixth and final season of House of Cards in Baltimore, Maryland.

The final season of House of Cards features Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as a ruthless political couple. 13 episodes will debut in 2018.

This news comes after Spacey was caught in the middle of a sexual assault scandal, with an actor claiming that Spacey made a sexual advance towards him when he was 14. Spacey responded by apologizing for his “inappropriate drunken behavior” and coming out as gay.

According to Project Casting, there have been dozens of casting calls for scenes filming the last two weeks in Baltimore, Maryland and surrounding areas.

The show has been a hit and helped Netflix establish itself as an Emmy-award winning production company. In fact, House of Cards has been nominated with 46 Emmys and received 6 wins so far.

At this time, it is unclear whether Spacey’s scandal has played a part in Netflix’s decision to pull the plug on the show. However, Netflix has recently canceled shows including The Get Down, Sense 8 and Girlboss. That said, Netflix may not be hurting when House of Cards does not return. The success of Stranger Things, The Crown, 13 Reasons Why, Dear White People and GLOW have all shown Netflix is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.
