Netflix’s Albuquerque Studio Complex Gets Sustainable Upgrades

EntertainmentNetflix's Albuquerque Studio Complex Gets Sustainable Upgrades

Exciting news for film and TV lovers! Netflix, the streaming giant we all know and love, is making big moves in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They’re pimping up their studio there, making it bigger, better, and way more eco-friendly!

A Sprawling New Complex Just for Netflix

The new Netflix Studios Albuquerque is a whopping 108 acres, which is basically the size of 82 football fields. Within this giant space, we’ve got four new soundstages, three mills, a spanking new production office, two buildings just for stage support, and two areas called ‘backlots’.

Why is this a big deal? Well, remember rolling landscapes, bustling city streets, and creepy forests you see in the movies? Those are often shot in backlots. So, we’re talking about some major upgrades happening here!

Keeping it Green: Sustainability Takes Centre Stage

The Albuquerque studio is not just about making more space. Netflix is also thinking about our planet. Sustainable features form a crucial part of this expansion. Solar panels have been installed on-site, alongside battery storage systems. Don’t underestimate these little batteries. They have the power to store and distribute energy, making the place cleaner and greener.

You know how our homes have heating and air-con to keep us comfy? The studio complex is using geothermal heating and cooling. It uses the Earth’s natural warmth to do the job, all while saving energy. Plus, Netflix is keeping it 100% electric with appliances too.

Electric Vehicles Welcome!

And it’s not just on the inside. Anyone with an electric vehicle will find 50 fast chargers ready for their EVs. That includes a bunch of DC fast chargers, which juice up electric cars super quick.

Movies and Series Coming Soon

Now to the important question: what are they filming here? We’ve got quite the lineup. There’s a modern Western romance called “Ransom Canyon,” a series about doctors and hospitals, “Pulse,” and a supernatural show, “The Boroughs.”

All this action is on top of other Netflix hits we love, that were filmed in New Mexico before. Ever heard of “Stranger Things,” “The Harder They Fall,” “Army of the Dead,” or “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”? Yep, all shot right here in the Land of Enchantment.

Giving Back to the Local Economy

Netflix hasn’t just been making cool shows and movies. Since 2019, they’ve been busy pumping nearly $575 million directly into New Mexico productions. Plus, the streaming bigwig has given employment to more than 4,000 local cast and crew members between 2021 and 2023. Talk about putting the local economy on the global map!

In Conclusion

Expanding infrastructure? Check. Sustainable alternatives? You got it. Doing their part for the local economy? Absolutely. Our favorite streaming giant certainly knows how to make them all work together. As we look forward to more shows and movies coming our way, it feels pretty good knowing they’re made in a greener, more sustainable future, courtesy of Netflix Studios Albuquerque!
