In a tweet, he wrote, “Sooooo in these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus. I have been exposed to people in recent days who have subsequently tested positive and I had fever, chills, and shortness of breath. I just hope I didn’t give it to the kids and Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness! I am quarantined in my basement (which actually makes the rest of the family seem pleased!) I will do my shows from here. We will all beat this by being smart and tough and united!”

Andrew Cuomo reveals he’s not interested in running for President

It’s important to note Andrew Cuomo appeared on Chris’s CNN show denying he wanted to run for President of the United States. According to USA Today, Andrew denied the rumors of his political aspirations.

“Let me ask you something. With all of this adulation that you’re getting for doing your job, are you thinking about running for President? Tell the audience,” Chris Cuomo, 49, asked.

“No. No,” Andrew responded.

Chris Cuomo attended Yale University and received his law degree from Fordham University and was a layer some time. He later switched to journalism.

Here’s Why Amarin Stock is Plummeting

0

Shares of Amarin dropped 70.2% as of 11:40 A.M. Eastern. The drastic decline came after the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada ruled in favor of generic-drug companies and invalidated Amarin’s patent is for Vascepa, which was approved by the FDA to treat triglyceride levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Amarin’s only approved drug is Vascepa, and the introduction of generic medicines is a significant blow to the company, which just started promoting Vascepa as a drug treatment for reducing triglyceride levels.  That said, the ruling does not apply internationally, but generic drugs would hurt the company’s future growth in America.

This news comes after the coronavirus pandemic is putting a lot of strain on the healthcare industry. On March 15, following in the footsteps of other drugmakers, Amazon announced they were suspending sales visits to physicians. But, it fails in comparison to the court ruling allowing for more competition in the market.

In a statement, the company said they “strongly disagree with the ruling and will vigorously pursue all available remedies.” Amarin plans on appealing the decision and expects Amarin to file a preliminary injunction if the FDA approves abbreviated new drug applications for generics. Overall, it illustrates the difficulties for drugmakers face for building a business around one approved drug.

In relevant news, other businesses are feeling the pinch during the Coronavirus. A new study has found music streams have decreased. According to analytics provider Alpha Data, NME says streams in the United States dropped 7.6 percent during the week of March 13 to March 19, which is around the time self-isolation became a national battle cry to combat the Coronavirus. Meanwhile, digital song sales dropped 10.7 percent, digital album sales fell by 12.4 percent, and physical album sales dropped to 27.6 percent. The physical album sales drop is not too surprising as many record stores shut down, and Amazon has put selling CDs and vinyl records on hiatus.

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado is now in place across metro Atlanta. The watch area includes Clayton, Henry, Fayette, Rockdale and Newton counties until nearly 5 p.m Eastern.

The weather risk is affecting communities in south and southeast Atlanta, according to WSBTV. “TORNADO WATCH: A tornado watch is in effect for areas mainly south of I-20 through 4 pm. The tornado risk is highest to our south, but we still have the chance for an isolated rotating storm,” Brian Monahan from WSBTV tweeted.

Coronavirus: Analysts Predict Consumer Confidence To Drop

Consumer Confidence report to get released on Tuesday with analysts predicting it will decrease.

As the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the world, investors will discover how it is impacting consumer confidence on Tuesday.

According to Yahoo Finance, the Conference Board is set to release its consumer confidence report for March, and economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect the number to drop to 110.o from 130.7 just a month ago.

The March report will be an incomplete depiction of the COVID-19 outbreak because it was surveyed earlier in the month.  “Although lower mortgage rates and gasoline prices would provide some relief to household cash flows, the country-wide shutdown measures, sharp stock market sell-off, and worse news on contagion should push optimism lower,” Credit Suisse said in a note March 26. “The deterioration in consumer sentiment is likely to get worse in April as shutdowns and layoffs take a toll on confidence.”

Not everyone is experiencing lousy news. Conagra Brands released its quarterly earnings. The company says it has experienced “significantly increased demand” in the fourth quarter and expects to exceed expectations.  “While we are still early in our fourth quarter, we have seen significantly elevated demand for our retail products as consumers have started filling their pantries for more at-home eating,” Chief Executive San Connolly said in a statement.

In relevant news, Wall Street economists forecast things will get worse in the future.

Ian Shepherdson, a chief economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, says things will get worse. “We now guesstimate that second-quarter GDP will drop at a 10% annualized rate, after a 2% fall in Q1,” said Ian Shepherdson, said in a note to clients last MondayHis forecast suggests consumer spending will decrease in the next few months. “We are becoming more pessimistic about the near-term economic outlook,” Shepherdson says.

Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls ESPN Documentary is Finally Coming Soon

0

The highly-anticipated documentary and inside look into Michael Jordan’s last championship season with the Chicago Bulls is finally getting a release date.

On Tuesday, ESPN and Netflix announced the 10-part documentary is called ‘The Last Dance’ and will run in the United States over five consecutive Sunday nights starting April 19 and running through May 17. Each episode will be two-hours long and airing back-to-back at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern Time.

The series will feature never-before-seen footage from that season, which featured the Chicago Bulls team chasing its sixth championship.

“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience,” ESPN said in a statement. “We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that.”

ESPN initially planned on releasing the documentary in June, when the season NBA Finals were to be played. However, with the lack of sports content due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was pushed up.

The documentary is nearly 25 years in development. The documentary started in 1997 when Jordan, Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf and coach Phil Jackson allowed an NBA Entertainment film crew to follow the team the entire season. ESPN says the documentary includes “extensive profiles of Jordan’s key teammates including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Steve Kerr,” and Phil Jackson.

“Michael Jordan and the ‘90s Bulls weren’t just sports superstars, they were a global phenomenon,” said Jason Hehir, who directed the series. “Making ‘The Last Dance’ was an incredible opportunity to explore the extraordinary impact of one man and one team. For nearly three years, we searched far and wide to present the definitive story of an era-defining dynasty and to present these sports heroes as humans.”

The documentary series will air in the United States on ESPN and internationally on Netflix.

What Does Furlough Mean?

1

What does furlough mean? What are the differences between getting laid-off?

While economists predict the Coronavirus will have long-term damage to the U.S. economy, COVID-19 is having an immediate impact on millions of Americans and thousands are getting furloughed.

What does furlough mean?

  • According to Merriam-Webster, furlough means  “to cease to employ (a worker) often temporarily.” The dictionary company points out that furlough is often used as a nice way to say, fire, otherwise removing someone from a job for an indefinite period of time.

Given the ambiguity of the term, the word’s definition will depend upon how it is used. More specifically, if a company says they are furloughing their staff for an indefinite period of time, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, they are technically fired from their job.

Furlough in America

This week, Macy’s furloughed nearly 130,000 of their workforce. Macy’s announced it’s furloughing most of its workforce, including nearly 130,000 employees. Workers will continue to receive health benefits until the end of May 2020.

“Across Macy’s, Bloomingdales, and Bluemercury [beauty] brands, we will be moving to the absolute minimum workforce needed to maintain basic operations,” the retailer said Monday.

Since March 18, all of Macy’s closed their stories. The company says they will stay closed “until we have [a] clear line of sight on when it is safe to reopen.” That said, their online retail business is still open, but the company said they lost a majority of their sales due to store closures.

Meanwhile, SeaWorld Entertainment announced they will furlough 90% of their employees.

On Friday, SeaWorld Entertainment announced the company would furlough more than 90% of its employees by April 1.

The mass-furlough and park closures come as the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, and businesses continue to furlough and layoff employees due to the virus’s impact on business.

Busch Gardens announced a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Employees will be eligible for unemployment, and the furlough is indefinite until “business conditions” improve.

Busch Gardens announced a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Employees will be eligible for unemployment, and the furlough is indefinite until “business conditions” improve.

“As a company in an industry dependent on travel and tourism, the current pandemic has impacted our business significantly,” according to a statement from SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment. “Our parks will remain closed and are unable to generate revenue; therefore, we have made the painful but necessary business decision to temporarily furlough over 90% of our current workforce, including corporate employees, to position the company for long-term viability. During this time, our focus is on resuming normal operations and welcoming back guests and ambassadors as quickly as possible.”
