Netflix is Working on Several ‘House of Cards’ Spinoffs

On Monday, it was announced the sixth season of House of Cards would be the show’s last. While the decision had apparently been made several months ago, the news went public following the allegations made against the show’s star Kevin Spacey by Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp, who claimed the actor had sexually assaulted him when he was only 14 years old. Spacey followed up these allegations by apologizing and coming out as gay.

After the news, Netflix announced that House of Cards was coming to an end, but the fans of the political drama have a small bit of good news. Netflix is plotting multiple spinoff plans. According to Variety, one of the spinoffs will center around Doug Stamper, the assistant played by Michael Kelly, with Eric Roth, who served as the show’s executive producer of House of Cards for four seasons as the writer.

Two other potential spinoffs are also being considered. The sixth season of House of Cards is still being filmed in Baltimore. In fact, according to Project Casting, casting directors are looking for military recruits and extras to work on a Gala scene. That said, reports suggest Kevin Spacey is currently not on the set of the show.

It is important to note, House of Cards has been a hit and helped Netflix establish itself as an Emmy-award winning production company. In fact, House of Cards has been nominated for 46 Emmys and received six wins so far.

The final season features Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as a ruthless political couple. 13 episodes will debut in 2018.

Netflix Pulls the Plug on Kevin Spacey’s ‘House of Cards’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s hit political drama House of Cards is coming to an end. Netflix is currently filming the sixth and final season of House of Cards in Baltimore, Maryland.

The final season of House of Cards features Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as a ruthless political couple. 13 episodes will debut in 2018.

This news comes after Spacey was caught in the middle of a sexual assault scandal, with an actor claiming that Spacey made a sexual advance towards him when he was 14. Spacey responded by apologizing for his “inappropriate drunken behavior” and coming out as gay.

According to Project Casting, there have been dozens of casting calls for scenes filming the last two weeks in Baltimore, Maryland and surrounding areas.

The show has been a hit and helped Netflix establish itself as an Emmy-award winning production company. In fact, House of Cards has been nominated with 46 Emmys and received 6 wins so far.

At this time, it is unclear whether Spacey’s scandal has played a part in Netflix’s decision to pull the plug on the show. However, Netflix has recently canceled shows including The Get Down, Sense 8 and Girlboss. That said, Netflix may not be hurting when House of Cards does not return. The success of Stranger Things, The Crown, 13 Reasons Why, Dear White People and GLOW have all shown Netflix is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.

First Weinstein Company Movie After The Scandal Makes Only $742

The first movie released by The Weinstein Company following multiple reports of sexual harassment against founder Harvey Weinstein was a box office bomb.

“Amityville: The Awakening,” starring Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Cameron Monaghan, grossed only $742 after opening in 10 theaters Saturday, according to Variety.

The movie, distributed by The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films, had a rough start after the Weinstein scandal. Variety reports it was supposed to premiere multiple times since last year before the movie was made available for free on Google Play on October 12th, with a one-day theatrical release on October 28th.

The movie is a sequel to The Amityville Horror and centers around paranormal activity in a house in Amityville, New York, where a man murdered his family. The 2017 movie stars Bella Thorne who moves into a new home with her family, and strange things happen. The film currently has a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

This news comes after a New York Times report the company lost its financial backup when a preliminary agreement for a cash infusion from a private equity firm Colony Capital broke down. The group allegedly found “more disorder than it had expected — and less value — once it started closely examining the studio’s assets.”

Weinstein was fired from The Weinstein Company this month shortly after The New York Times published its first report on his alleged sexual misconduct. Since then, he as comes under investigation by multiple police departments including NYPD, LAPD, and London for allegations of rape. Since then, he has sued The Weinstein Company for access to his work emails, which he claims has “information exonerating him,” which will protect him and the company from legal action, according to a report by Deadline.

Corey Feldman Says People Are Trying To Kill Him Because of His Hollywood Documentary

Following the Harvey Weinstein allegations that several actresses have either been sexually assaulted or harassed, actor Corey Feldman has vowed to produce a documentary exposing pedophiles in Hollywood.

Feldman sat down with Megan Kelly on Monday morning to explain why he is attempting to crowdfunding $10 million to produce a documentary on the topic, instead of just naming names. When asked by Kelly why he wouldn’t just come forward with names, Feldman said he gave names of abusers to police who were investigating Michael Jackson at the time of the pop star’s molestation case, and nothing happened.

That said, Feldman said his security is a priority and that he actively fears for his life over the documentary. “Somebody tried to kill me the other day, I’ve been arrested, this is no joke,” he told Kelly.

“Someone tried to kill you?” she exclaimed. “Two trucks come speeding at me, on the highway, at the same time,” Feldman claimed. “Okay I was with six other people, I have many witnesses to this. Now I’m not saying they were trying to kill Corey Feldman; they were definitely trying to kill a group of people walking across the street.” Why were you and your friends walking across the highway in the first place, Corey Feldman?

Feldman continued by saying he doesn’t have protection from the law and that the $10 million would go towards his legal fees to represent himself. “Truth is an absolute defense to any defamation case, and every victim needs to know this,” Kelly pointed out. Kelly also pointed out that he should have nothing to worry about if he is telling the truth.

So far, Feldman has raised $160,000 of the $10 million he says he needs to make his movie.

Kevin Spacey Apologizes to Anthony Rapp, Comes Out As Gay

As allegations of sexual harassment and assault continue following Harvey Weinstein’s many accusations, Anthony Rapp’s recollection of Kevin Spacey drunkenly trying to seduce him when the Star Trek actor was 14 years old has sparked a new controversy.

Kevin Spacey released a statement on Twitter apologizing despite not recalling the night in question. “I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology,” he said.

Along with an apology, Spacey addressed the long-running Hollywood rumor that he was gay. “This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life,” Spacey said. “I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women.”

Spacey added, “I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”

You can read the full statement below.

This news comes after Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused Kevin Spacey of making a sexual advance upon him in 1986, while Rapp was still a teenager.

At the time of the incident, which occurred when both actors were working on Broadway in different plays, Rapp was 14 years old, and Spacey was 26. Rapp, who is now 46, spoke with Buzzfeed News about how Spacey invited Rapp to a party at his apartment, and after all the guests left, Spacey reportedly made a “sexual advance” on him. Rapp explains:

“My impression when [Spacey] came in the room was that he was drunk … He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me … He was trying to seduce me … I don’t know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually … [he] was, like, pressing into me … tightening his arms.”

Rapp says he was in shock, so he can not remember how long the incident continued, but Rapp was able to “squirm” away, and he recalls Spacey asking him if he really wanted to leave, at which point Rapp departed. Soon after, Spacey became famous, and Rapp says he was afraid of working with him again. Now, App ays he is sharing his story “not to simply air a grievance … but to try to shine another light on the decades of behavior that have been allowed to continue” because victims are often ostracized.

Several Former Trump Campaign Officials Charged in Russian Investigation

0

The first charges to come from the ongoing investigation into possible collusion between Donald Trump and Russia have come to light on Monday morning. According to the New York Times, Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, former Trump foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos, and Rick Gates, an ex-business associate of Manafort, were ordered to surrender to federal authorities.

The charge against Manafort and Gates were not “immediately clear”. Yet the arrests presents the first clear efforts of the five-month-long investigation into whether or not members of Trump’s campaign staff colluded with Russian officials or people associated with Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election.

According to the Washington Post, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty earlier this month to making a false statement to FBI investigators who asked him about his contacts with a foreigner connected to Russian officials.

Meanwhile, Manafort and Gates were charged in a 12-count indictment with “conspiracy to launder money, making false statements and other charges stemming from probes into possible Russian influence in U.S. political affairs,” the Washington Post reports.

Manafort and Gates are expected to make their first court appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge this afternoon. The special counsel revealed Papadopoulos’s plea shortly after the indictment was unsealed. The Washington Post reports that Papadopouls had been “cooperating with investigators for months.”

As President Trump pointed out on Twitter, the charges against Manafort and Gates did not reference the Trump campaign. ““Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign. But why aren’t Crooked Hillary & the Dems the focus?????” Trump wrote.

“….Also, there is NO COLLUSION!” he said in a second tweet.

The indictment of Manafort and Gates centered around their work helping with a Russia-allied political party in Ukraine. But the Papadopoulos indictment is related to alleged efforts to set up a meeting with Russian officials while he worked on the campaign.

The special counsel claims that for nearly a decade Manafort and Gates laundered money through multiple corporations, partnerships and bank accounts, and false statements given to the Justice Department. In fact, the special counsel claims more than $75 million moved from offshore accounts.

Puerto Rico Cancels Whitefish Energy’s Controversial $300 Million Contract

0

On Sunday, Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló called for the cancellation of Whitefish Energy’s contract to rebuild the country’s power grid after Hurricane Maria. Hours later, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) followed through and canceled the agreement. This news comes after a small Montana company with only two full-time employees won the $300 million deal, which sparked criticism, debate, and questions.

Whitefish CEO Andy Techmanski had argued that he had scored the deal with LinkedIn. But, news surfaced that he was closely connected to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. The resulting situation led to PREPA head Richardo Ramos to make a tough decision.

“It’s an enormous distraction,” Ramos said of the controversy over the contract. “This was negatively impacting the work we’re already doing.”

The current work by Whitefish teams will not be affected by the cancellation and that work will be completed in November, Ramos said. He said the cancellation will delay work by a couple of months because the government will have to find new companies to help restore power to the island. (via ABC News).

Ultimately, this deal will come to an end, but many Puerto Ricans will continue to suffer without electricity. It is important to note Whitefish engaged in a Twitter debate with the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Perhaps it is time for Puerto Rico’s Governor to call upon Silicon Valley giants such as Google and Tesla to innovate solutions that could help the U.S. territory.

Two Navy Seals are Under Investigation For the Strangling Death of a Green Beret

0

The ambush in Niger that killed 4 U.S. soldiers, two of which being Green Berets, is still under investigation. But, according to a New York Times report, officials have been investigating the death of another Green Beret in Mali this June, which has been ruled a homicide.

The circumstances of Staff Sgt. Logan J. Melgar’s death has been under wraps for several months due to an investigation by the NCIS, but two Seals in question were quickly placed on leave after the military officials concluded Melgar died by strangulation. Their status shifted from “witnesses” to “persons of interest” with two now formally becoming suspects in the murder.

The New York Times reports Melgar had served through two Afghanistan tours before being deployed to Mali to assist with counter-tourism missions. His body was discovered within embassy housing where he lived with other Special Ops forces, and his death was immediately considered suspicious.

The soldier’s superiors in Stuttgart, Germany, almost immediately suspected foul play, and dispatched an investigating officer to the scene within 24 hours,” military officials told the New York Times. “Agents from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command spent months on the case before handing it off last month to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service,” the NY Times said.

There have been very few details from military officials. However, the NY Times notes that the “uncertainty” surrounding the homicide has led to many speculate. Theories have ranged from something that went “horribly wrong” to Melgar discovering “some illicit activity the SEALs were involved in,” and the suspects wanted to make sure no one ever finds out.

George Clooney’s ‘Suburbicon’ Bombs in the Box Office

Since the opening of IT, there have been several box office letdowns. Since early September, the only movie with a box office opening that defied expectations was Happy Death Day, while most of the other significant films have been disappointments including Blade Runner 2049, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Flatliners, Geostorm, and mother! Overall, it has been a weak box office stretch since July and the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

This weekend, the Saw franchise returned for the first time in nearly a decade with Jigsaw and the movie earned a disappointing $16 million, down $6 million from Saw 3D. But it is important to point out that most people are spending time outside of the movie theater going to Halloween events. But, this is a disappointing opening for an established franchise wishing to reboot itself. The reviews for the movie didn’t help either. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 42% rating, while audiences enjoyed the film with a B Cinemascore. That said, from a business standpoint Jigsaw will end up being a profitable movie with the average Saw movie costing around $10 million to make, so even after the promotion of the film, Jigsaw should turn a profit after the movie debuts overseas.

Meanwhile, Boo 2! A Madea Halloween took second place with $9.3 million in its second weekend. It is important to point out that the Tyler Perry production has made $35 million after ten days. Geostorm took third place, falling 60% and taking home $5.4 million, which is terrible news for a movie that cost $120 million to make. In fourth place, Happy Death Day, earned $4.7 million as the film approaches $50 million.

Sadly, the Atlanta-filmed movie Thank You For Your Service landed in sixth place with only $4 million. The film, which focuses on combat PTSD, ends up being a movie that viewers did not want to see. Even with good reviews, 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, people were not that interested in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This weekend’s biggest box office disappointment is George Clooney’s Suburbicon. The movie was directed by the Ocean Eleven star, based on a Coen Brother script, and starred Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. Sadly, it bombed at the box office, earning $3 million in its opening weekend. Reviews did not help. Critics only gave it a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes with audiences rating the movie a D- Cinemascore. Suburbicon will ultimately become George Clooney’s worst movie.

Next weekend Thor: Ragnarok and A Bad Moms Christmas hit theaters.

Instagram Superzoom: Here’s How It Works

0

Instagram is a popular social media. The social network has a massive number of active users totaling to 88 million users, networked together, as of September 2017. In the upcoming years, arguably, it can give serious competition to the likes of Facebook and Google.

One of the reasons people love Instagram is due to vibrant filters and exotic photo effects. A new feature is known as “Superzoom” has been added to the inventory of Instagram

Functionality of Superzoom

Not too long ago, a viral video surfaced the YouTube, depicting a dramatic chipmunk. Over time, it quickly became a notable figure in the meme world. Although in actual, it was a prairie dog and not a chipmunk, the mainstream media depicted the creature as a lively chipmunk.

via GIPHY

The Superzoom feature allows you to transform your face just like that ‘dramatic chipmunk.’ This feature is now available on both IOS and Android. With a tap of a button, you get to transform your face into a zooming state of a chipmunk; This is much easier, compared to what video editors or Photoshop enthusiasts used to spend hours, fixing additional effects to zoom-in on a picture and then add the required “chipmunk” vibe.

To activate the Superzoom, one should access the camera of Instagram Stories. Next to the “Boomerang feature”, lies the function of Superzoom. Based on the user preference of front or rear camera of opting for a shot, a user can tap the button to capture moments. Upon the tap, a three-second Superzoom would be recorded.

However, if a user decides to keep holding the button, a user can extend the video up to fifteen seconds.

NOTE: Users need to update the Instagram mobile app, to see the “Superzoom” feature. If it is still not available, try logging out and then back in, to have unlimited fun with Superzoom.
