Why ‘Hawaii Five-0’ Asian Stars Quit the Show

Two of the leading actors on Hawaii Five-0 are leaving the show because they are paid less than their white co-stars.

According to Variety, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, are leaving the hit CBS series after seven years because they were unable to negotiate the same pay as their white co-stars Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan.

Apparently, the two actors were offered around 10 to 15% less than O’Loughlin and Caan.

All four of the cast members have starred on the show since it debuted in 2010.

CBS issued a statement on the situation.

“We are so appreciative of Daniel and Grace’s enormous talents, professional excellence and the aloha spirit they brought to each and every one of our 168 episodes,” the statement read.

“They’ve helped us build an exciting new Hawaii Five-0, and we wish them all the best and much success in their next chapters. Mahalo and a hui hou…”

Hawaii Five-0 centers around Steve McGarett who travels to Oahu to find his father’s killer. The governor then offers him the chance to run his own task force.

Kim’s and Park’s characters, Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua, will not appear in the show’s eighth season.

Vlogger accidentally poisons herself while eating a plant on live stream.

According to reports, a blogger accidentally poisoned herself while eating what she thought was an Aloe Vera plant. The Chinese internet star, who goes by the name of Ms. Zhang, was live streaming herself demonstrating the benefits of the plant. However, she purchased the wrong type of plant, which did not have any health benefits at all. In fact, it was poisonous.

Apparently, the 26-year-old ate an Agave Americana, a poisonous plant from Mexico.

The video has gone viral on Chinese websites, after it had become apparent she poisoned herself. At first, Ms. Zhang is heard saying “yum” then she realized there was a problem, complaining the plant tastes bitter.

She quit her live stream and immediately went to the hospital because her mouth had gone numb and her throat was burning.

The Shanghaisst reported that doctors found the video blogger with rashes and blisters and were forced to pump her stomach. She is reportedly now in stable condition. The agave plant is typically used to make tequila. However, according to

This news comes after an aspiring YouTuber tried a prank and ultimately killed her boyfriend. The Norman County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota said on Wednesday that Monalisa Perez, 19, shot her 22-year-old boyfriend, Pedro Ruiz III, in the chest at close range with a handgun as Ruiz was holding an encyclopedia that was supposedly able to block the bullet.

Will Ferrell’s ‘The House’ Flops at the Box Office

Will Ferrell suffers one of the worst box office earnings of his career; Despicable Me 3 crushes the competition and Baby Driver shocks and surprises audiences this week at the box office.

Despicable Me 3 won the weekend box office destroying the competition with an opening at about $82 million, making it the sixth biggest opening of the year. That number is on par with Despicable Me 2 but lags behind the Minions movie, which made a jaw-dropping $115 million opening weekend in July of 2015. That said, it continues on an undefeated streak for Illumination Entertainment, which creates computer animated movies for about half of what Pixar does and still earns as much money. Essentially, Despicable Me 3 is a winning brand, and while their movies are not targeted towards adults, kids seem to love these films.

Meanwhile, Edgar Wright and his Atlanta-filmed movie Baby Driver, hit theaters this weekend. The movie not only earned Wright the best opening weekend of his career but it also made $27 million, which is only $4 million short of his cumulative gross for any film Wright has directed. In fact, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World earned $31 million in 2010.

Transformers: The Last Knight dropped 64% in the box office with a $16 million second weekend. After ten days, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has earned $291 million. Overseas, Transformers made $200 million in its opening week alone.

Fourth place goes to Wonder Woman, which continues to dominate in the box office. Wonder Woman added another $15 million making it the highest-grossing live-action movie ever by a female director and the highest grossing movie in the DC Extended Universe, beating Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad.

Cars 3 took fifth place this weekend, falling to $10 million after Despicable Me 3 hit theaters and took out their target audience. It has earned $121 million domestically, but, the movie will improve once the film is released overseas.

Finally, in at sixth place is the weekend’s huge disappointment, The House, which cost more money than Baby Driver and featured bigger actors, but only made a fraction of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver. The House starred Will Ferrel, Amy Poehler and cost $40 million dollars to make but, the movie finished with only $9.3 million. The House made less money than Will Ferrell’s first movie, A Night at the Roxbury. Excluding low-budget films and supporting roles, it is the smallest opening weekend of Will Ferrell’s career. The movie currently has a 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Next weekend, Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters.

Ancient Tower of Human Skulls Discovered in Mexico City

0

Human skulls were discovered underneath Mexico City, which is now prompting questions about the culture of death, sacrifice, and religion in the Aztec Empire. Archaeologists have found more than 650 skulls and thousands of fragments near the site of the Templo Mayor, one of the main temples of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan.

The tower of human skulls is believed to form part of the Huey Tzompantli, an array of skulls that frightened Spanish conquistadors when they captured the city under the leadership of Hernan Cortes.

Andres de Tapia, a soldier who fought with Cortes in during the conquest of Mexico in the 1500s, recorded the structure claiming there were thousands of skulls lining the city, archaeologist Raul Barrera told Reuters. Now, Barrera believes they will continue to find more skulls as the excavation continues.

Archaeologists began excavation of the old city in 2015, and it was previously believed the skulls only belonged to male warriors killed in combat. However, the discovery of young and female skulls has left archaeologists confused about the culture of the Aztec empire.

A biological anthropologist involved in the study said, “We were expecting just men, obviously young men, as warriors would be, and the thing about the women and children is that you’d think they wouldn’t be going to war.”

“Something is happening that we have no record of, and this is really new, a first in the Huey Tzompantli,” he added.

The Aztec empire existed from the 1300s to the mid-1500s. The Aztec culture is known most notably for the archaeological evidence found in excavations. One of the most famous excavations is the Templo Mayor in Mexico City. The temple was dedicated to two gods, the god of war and the god of rain and agriculture. The temple was later destroyed by the Spanish in 1521 to make a new cathedral.

Recreational Marijuana is Now Legal in Nevada

0

Recreational marijuana is now for sale in Nevada. As of midnight Saturday, weed went on sale in Nevada, making it the eighth state in the country that allows the purchase and selling of marijuana in pot dispensaries.

How does Nevada’s recreational marijuana business work?

Nevada law states adults ages 21 and older can possess up to an ounce of marijuana following a law that was approved by voters in November 2016. Moreover, adults who smoke in public could be charged up to a $600 fine. In fact, marijuana is prohibited in casinos, bars, restaurants, parks, concerts, and on any federal property. Essentially, the consumption of marijuana in Nevada is for private use only and restricted to homes.

Can you buy marijuana in Las Vegas?

While the state allows for the purchasing of marijuana for recreational purposes, due to federal drug laws and state casino laws, dispensaries cannot be located on the Las Vegas strip.

What is the future of legalization in America?

John Kagia, an analyst for New Frontier, told CNN that the national market for marijuana could reach over $20 billion in the next three years. Kagia also explains that it could potentially bring over 200,000 new jobs the U.S.

“Despite broad political division in the country, cannabis seems to be the one factor that has drawn universal support,” said John Kagia, said. “This has exceeded the expectations of even the most Pollyanna-ish industry participants.”

New research claims the annual sales of pot in California could reach nearly $8 billion by 2020. Moreover, legalization can bring more jobs for businesses that are not directly related to marijuana. Kaiga says weed legalization can create “income opportunities for businesses that do not touch the plant but serve the needs of the industry.”

That said, the Drug Enforcement Agency currently classifies marijuana as a Schedule 1 controlled substance, which is on the same level of heroin.

We’re told 2 weeks ago Kanye’s lawyer fired off a second letter declaring again the contract was over.”

Mars Child Slave Colony: NASA Denies Existence of Kidnapped Children Living on Mars

0

While Elon Musk is working on colonizing Mars and devising a plan on how it will a commercially viable option, one man believes NASA has already kidnapped and sent children to Mars.

On Thursday, InfoWars host had guest Robert David Steele on The Alex Jones show. On the show, Steele discussed abducted children have been sent on space missions for the past twenty years.

Steele claims that “there is a colony on Mars that is populated by children who were kidnapped and sent into space on a 20-year ride.” Steele added, “So that once they get to Mars, they have no alternative but to be slaves on the Mars colony.”

In response to the allegations, NASA gave The Daily Beast a statement on the allegedly kidnapped space children.

“There are no humans on Mars. There are active rovers on Mars. There was a rumor going around last week that there weren’t. There are,” Guy Webster, a spokesperson for Mars exploration at NASA said in a statement. “But there are no humans.”

Steele not only claimed that kidnapped children are being used as slaves in space, but he also alleged that they are being murdered for their blood and bone marrow. “Pedophilia does not stop with sodomizing children,” said Steele. “It goes straight into terrorizing them to adrenalize their blood and then murdering them. It also includes murdering them so that they can have their bone marrow harvested as well as body parts.”

Lately, NASA has had their hands filled with conspiracy theories. Earlier this week,  Anonymous hacking collective YouTube channel claimed the space agency was going to reveal the existence of extraterrestrial life in the next few days. NASA later refuted the allegations. Associate Administrator at NASA issued a statement on Twitter saying, “Contrary to some reports, there’s no pending announcement from NASA regarding extraterrestrial life.”

Opioid Addiction Rise by Nearly 500%, Study Finds

0

Researchers find that the number of Americans diagnosed with opioid addiction is continuing to rise, but very few people are getting treated for their disease.

Opioid drug disorder study

A study from Blue Cross Blue Shield of their members found that from 2010 to 2016, the number of people diagnosed with an addiction to opioids rose to nearly 500%. According to the report, researchers found in 2010 there were 1.4 incidences of an opioid addiction among every 1000 members. But, by 2016 the number increased to 8.3 rates of opioid use disorder for every 1000 members. Meanwhile, there was only a 65% percent increase in the number of people receiving treatment for their addiction despite the rise of 493% opioid addicted members.

Dr. Trent Haywood, a senior vice-president and chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield, issued a statement on the matter calling opioid use disorder a “complex issue” without a single solution to “solving” the growing problem.

“It will take a collaborative effort among medical professionals, insurers, employers, communities and all levels of government working together to develop solutions that effectively meet community needs,” he added.

Researchers found that the longer someone was prescribed an opioid, the more likely they became addicted to the drugs. This report follows a similar report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent, which found a prescription of 31 days increased the chances of long-term opioid abuse to 29.9%.

Solutions for the opiate drug problem?

An Ohio city councilman suggested a solution to solving the growing opioid problem. Dan Picard proposes giving drug users two chances. Paramedics should respond to an overdose twice, and each time the addict will be required to go to court and do community service after being treated. If they do not show up to court, don’t complete the community service and overdose a third time? Picard suggests no one should come to help them. Picard ultimately argues that it is a financial issue saying that the city spent $1.2 million responding to those calls and estimates the cost will exceed $2 million.

“Either we go down the road with my plan, or we don’t, and we run out of money,” Picard said. “In either scenario, they’re not going to get treatment.”

Meanwhile, Blue Cross Blue Shield of America vice president of state affairs, Kim Holland, says they are working on addressing the growing opioid use disorder problem. “BCBS companies are already undertaking initiatives to help families and communities address opioid use disorder by forging partnerships with the medical community to promote best practices in prescribing and providing critical education to the public to raise awareness of the risks of opioid use,” said Kim Holland.

JAY-Z’s New Album ‘4:44’: Everything You Need to Know

Jay-Z released his 13th solo album, 4:44, and it addresses all of the gossip divulged in Beyoncé’s Lemonade album. The album features 10 tracks and offers an inside glimpse into the more personal side of the multi-millionaire entrepreneur.

When the album dropped at midnight, the album was played across 160 iHeartRadio stations in the United States. In addition, JAY-Z shared details into each track on the album.

The Meaning of Jay-Z’s ‘4:44’ Songs

“Kill JAY-Z”

For the first song on the album, JAY-Z argues that the song is all about “the ego.”

“The first song is called ‘Kill JAY-Z’ and obviously, it’s not to be taken literal.” JAY-Z said. “It’s really about the ego. It’s about killing off the ego, so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty.”

“The Story of OJ”

The second song on 4:44 is all about transformation, according to JAY-Z. “‘The Story of OJ’ is really a song about we as a culture, having a plan, how we’re gonna push this forward. We all make money, and then we all lose money, as artists especially. But how, when you have some type of success, to transform that into something bigger.”

“Smile”

Smile is all about seeing the bright side in life.

“‘Smile’ is just what it is. There are gonna be bad times, and those bad times can do two things: they can get you in a place where you’re stuck in a rut, or it can make your future that much better because you’ve experienced these things.”

“Caught The Eye”

JAY-Z explains that “Caught The Eye” is focusing on “being aware of your surroundings.” He points out a verse in the song that sums up his point. There’s a line in it, and it says,” he says. “‘Your body language is all remedial, how could you see the difference between you and I?’ Just being so sharp about your surroundings.”

“4:44″

The middle song in the album is probably JAY-Z’s most revealing song in the album. He explains that he woke up at 4 in the morning and began writing the lyrics to the song. With hundreds of songs written by JAY-Z, the lyricist explains this is one of his best songs he has ever written.

“‘4:44′ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

“Family Feud”

With all the controversy surrounding rappers, especially considering the recent feud between Joe Budden and the Migos during the BET Awards, JAY-Z’s “Family Feud” addresses the “separation within the culture.”

“‘Family Feud’ is about separation within the culture. Like, new rappers fighting with old rappers, saying all these things. So, the line is, ‘Nobody wins when the family feuds.’”

“Bam”

“Bam” is all about confidence. The song ‘Bam’ with Damian Marley it’s just jammin’, it’s just like the song. But it’s secretly Shawn Carter saying, ‘Man, you need a bit of ego.’ It was because of me and the things that I’ve done, this is JAY-Z saying you needed a bit of ego for us to arrive at this point.”

“Moonlight”

The song “Moonlight” addresses how culture has changed over time, especially the recent Oscars fiasco. “The hook is ‘We stuck in La La Land/Even if we win, we gonna lose.’ It’s like a subtle nod to La La Land winning the Oscar, and then having to give it to Moonlight. It’s really a commentary on the culture and where we’re going.”

“Marcy Me”

“Marcy Me” is a reflection back on the Marcy projects, where JAY-Z grew up. “‘Marcy Me’ is a nostalgic walk through Marcy, and it’s about that hopefulness, that feeling of ‘Man, can I really do this? Can I really be one of the biggest artists in the world?’ You have these dreams, ‘Can I be one of the biggest basketball players?’ We have these dreams.”

“Legacy”

JAY-Z explains that this song is a “verbal will” and centers around speaking to his daughter. “The song is just about what it is, it’s like a verbal will. Just a song about speaking to my daughter. She starts the song off, and she says ‘Daddy, what’s a will?’”

How to stream Jay-Z’s 4:44 album
